I liked being right at the beginning of the cable car line, it made the location very convenient for travelling around downtown and seeing all the touristy sights. The room was very clean, i had a top floor corner unit and enjoyed the 5 night stay, would reccomend for the price.

This is a no frills hotel with no staff on site, no AC, no fan, and bathroom is not in unit but shared down the hall. The location was great and the room was comfortable but small.

The bathroom sink leaked onto the floor and the water drained very slowly out of the shower over the bath. Otherwise it was fine. The net curtains were ripped .

You have to check in at a different hotel for some reason we had no clue, a passerby told us. At the actual hotel there wasn’t any staff for our entire two night stay but they texted us to ask if we needed anything. The bed was super comfy and we had no trouble sleeping at night. Only complaint is the bathroom was so gross, there was hair everywhere and the shower didn’t drain…

The check-in procedure was terrible. I had to walk uphill one block to another hotel with three items of luggage. There were no cups in the room for water, no Kleenex, no replacement towel service, no coffee maker. The staff I spoke to at the Stratford were lovely, but informed me if I wanted the trash removed or other attention, there would be an extra charge. I was told to take the trash to a receptacle near the elevator.

The hotel was what you'd expect for being in the heart of downtown in the Union Square area - it's not a super nice area so that makes it feel a little dirty/sketchy. And having to check in at another hotel was a little odd. The room was clean for the most part, besides the bathtub which was rusty and dirty. It was also odd not having any staff in the lobby during our whole stay.

Chose the Hertbert hotel for a cost-efficient place to stay. Location was perfect and room was ok for the price but the thing that ruined our trip was staying beside a longtime resident who was yelling and laughing at all times of day and night. It was tiring and terrifying. We tried to get a different room but due to a huge conference happening in SF we could not do anything than put in our earplugs.
