What a beautiful property with the luxury amenities of a 5 star hotel. The chef is amazing and we ate several meals in the beautiful ambience of their dining room. Comfortable beds and beautiful room with a view of the surrounding lake and mountains. We would highly recommend this hotel and its beautiful staff.

Avoid Casa Palopo: Guatemala is/was going through a political unrest situation with protesters blocking the roads. The US embassy advised anyone to stay clear or the road blocks/areas which also pertained to the roads to Late Atitlan. We found out the day we got to Antigua about the unrest and that the roads to Lake Atitlan are closed. Having booked for the day after we got to Antigua, we contacted the hotel and after several hours they said that we won’t get there unless we take a helicopter which was out of the question (financially and safety wise). We talked to several people in Antigua and most of them were going to visit Lake Atitlan as well. ALL of them got refunded due to the circumstances, however Casa Palopo did not. They charged us the hotel room for 2 nights with no explanation. (We did book through Expedia and they contacted the hotel every day for 8 days and the hotel refused to give us the refund, although Expedia mentioned several times that considering the circumstances it should be not issue to cancel the reservation and get the refund). Obviously money is way more important for them than the safety of their guest. I highly suggest to stay clear of this hotel as unknown circumstances may arise and the hotel WILL NOT work with you not matter what. We spent several hours on the phone with Expedia and emailing Casa Palopo and at the end they decided not to refund our stay!!

We booked the Casa Palopó as part of a friend's 50th birthday celebration about 4-6 months prior to the arrival date. Unfortunately for us, the Guatemalan elections caused civil unrest and because of this, we ended up having to cancel last minute (about a week's notice). The hotel was incredibly difficult to get a hold of, and when we finally were able to get someone via a web-based chat, they assured us that we'd be able to get a refund for our cancellation. Mind you, this was all before our stay was scheduled. However, after the dates of our stay passed, they came back to us and refused to give us the refund of over $1,000. We will be pursuing a chargeback with our credit card company, and we will most certainly never be booking with this hotel (or any of their associate properties) ever again.

Most of the roads coming to the hotel were available. Your reservation was made through a third party, not directly. This is why cancellation policies applied. Exceptional attention to customer service
We were not able to make it to this hotel due to protests in Guatemela with road closures preventing travel. We can however attest to the fact that the hotel staff checked on us during our travel and kept in touch to make sure we did not get stuck in a road blockade. This level of attention to customer safely shows the level of service provided at this hotel. I would like to give a shout out to Lopez who was very kind and worked with a sister property on Antigua to resolve our dilemma

Everything was organized and seamless, property pays a wonderful tribute to local culture & community, and I felt extremely safe and well taken care of as a solo female traveller journeying through Guatemala for the first time! There is a charge the the 3rd person since it wasnt what you reserve originally.Even with a 3rd guest I personally waved the charge also because your vip status. So no extra charge was made. I even talk with your husband and he stated that everything was perfect he even thank me for waving the fee for the 3rd person.We apologize if any inconvenience was caused but we DID honored your expedia vip and DID NOT charge you extra for the 3rd guest.Kind regards

My wife and I were highly looking forward to staying at Casa Polopo. We have stayed at Relais and Chateaux properties around the world and have grown to expect a certain level of luxury and service. Actually our main reason to visit Guatemala was the lake and property and views it provides. Keep in mind the price for 3 nights with taxes was $1600 USD The property did inform us several days after booking (and also after booking the flight) that there is some construction going on. There is not a lot of other luxury hotels in the area, so after discussing with the hotel we decided to stay there anyway. I was told that it was not in the lobby or by the rooms. Upon arrival, the actual road to the property was closed, my wife and I had to walk 10 minutes to the gate and the taxi waited 45 minutes for the road Blockage to clear in order to bring our bags. The front gate had about 20 workers and I thought we were at the wrong hotel. There were workers within 10 feet of our room using hammers and chisels all day long. There is no air conditioning at the property. It was impossible for us to stay in the room and relax due to the noise, which is a main reason to visit the property. I left feeling like I was scammed out of a luxury hotel experience. I asked them for a discount for the inconvenience. They did offer a complimentary dinner for the inconvenience which is almost laughable. The lake offers incredible views but spend your time at another property.

This is truly a 5 star experience. From greeting to cleanliness, to turn down service and restaurant it’s lovely. We stayed in the santa Catarina room, right over the lobby with no one above or below us or to either side! It felt like a private apartment. Plus the private terrace is huge with 3 floor to ceiling windows on the main room and another in the large bathroom. Sun chairs and couch and a dining table on the terrace look out at the most gorgeous view. There is a lot of climbing up to the pool but it’s worth it. The restaurant is in the main building where our room was, so it made it easy to have breakfast and dinner in our hotel, and why leave?? We had drinks by the crackling fire near a bar at night, and saw lightening cracking off in the distance on the other side of the lake. If you need a quick trip, there is a heliport that will take you to and from Antigua or Guatemala City or other places. Fabulous stay!

The property had truly beautiful areas and the staff could not have been nicer. The views from the hotel are unparalled. Its a wonderful place to relax and disconnect yet there are a lot of things to do as well. The overall property however needs a bit of fixing up and attention as it is a bit run down and the food was really not edible.

This place is amazing!
The best in everything: a genuine service and customer care you have not seen at any other hotel, rooms beautifully decorated, their own branded toiletries are amazing, their menu is good and will let you make little changes to the recipes, and the views are to die for… you won’t regret coming here.

It is perfect. The staff is super helpfyl and friendly. The continental breakfast was delicious, the coffee was the best servrd in french press. Everything we had was delicious. Will definitely recommend it for a romantic weekend get away.

Casa Palopo is a delightful get away. My room was at the tippy top of 150 steps, right near the upper pool. The room had spectacular views of the lake and amenities to match. The Chef provided yummy options including onion thyme soup, black bean soup, corn risotto, squash ravioli, main dish cauliflower for my veggie daughter and several fish options. Everything was delicious. The service was special - thoughtful and pleasant. Breakfast and lunch were also well presented. Special note of the Guatemalan cerviche. OMG, could eat every day! Everywhere you went, the people were kind and helpful. Truly a wonderful place
