I have stayed here for many times. It has been great every time. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Area around the hotel was convenient. Lots of restaurants, shopping and easy access to public transport ( close to 3 subway lines)

Good location, and room has an air-con unit that is controlled in-room. I can decide if it's a cooling or warming function. Room is big. The shower room looks a bit worn out, but in-room aircon is really important because I stayed in another hotel in Beijing in the same trip that only had central aircon and it was only warming function for 20degC days..

Not the standard expected, that’s not a 5 star hotel. The shower was VERY DIRTY, please check the posted pictures. Not well maintained, not clean and no friendly service.

It is definitely not the same standard as other Kempinskis in the world, as the property is in dire need of repair and refinement, and the service staff are less friendly than the typical Shanghai person - the check-in staff seem to operate in a way as though they’re doing us guests a favour, and behave with a very strange air of superiority complex - which is totally laughable when I remind myself this is a Kempinski, a supposed five star hotel in Shanghai and yet they feel it’s their duty to make hotel guests feel not great. :D However we were there for holiday and just shrugged it off as we did not want to let bad service affect our time in Shanghai. Cleaning staff were friendly and thorough, greeting and acknowledging us along the hallways, and could definitely teach the counter staff a thing or two about good customer service.

Hotel was good value but room was tired. The outdoor terrace was often locked away behind’s what looked to be a room door and was very basic with no bar. So overall our stay was fine.

Staff to improve on communication with guests

Overall the experience was ok however I find that the staff at the front desk in the morning was somewhat disappointing. Booked an airport transfer the evening before to leave at 7am the next morning. We went down to the lobby at 7am and waited for more than 10 minutes for the car to arrive. Spoke to the front desk staff and he was clueless of what was happening. He didn't even bother whether we were late for our flight or not. He later called the limo and spoke in mandarin. After the call, he didn't even bother updating us on the status of the car...whether we need to give another 10 minutes or explain why the car was late etc. So we continued waiting which seem forever. Finally the car arrived and he did not even come to us and tell us but expect us to know that our car has arrived. Anyway, we got in the car and goodness, the car was dirty! There was bits and pieces of groundnuts in the car and we felt it was simply unacceptable considering the price we pay for the transfer.
