"This place is a trip! It’s accessible only by water taxi. The rooms are very spacious and clean, and have screen windows only - no glass! There are monkeys everywhere. The staff is very gracious and nice, and really made our trip special. "

"Excellent stay at Mawamba lodge. Gardens around the ground are great and we saw sloths and Toucans a short walk from our room. Breakfast was great as was the dinner we had at the restaurant. Pool can get quite busy with families and children. Town is only a short walk away or they can provide a river taxi. Also took part in the tours arranged by the hotel which was fantastic with a very knowledgeable tour guide. Would highly recommend it visiting Tortuguero "

"This guest house is great. The staff are so helpful. Emmanuel on reception contacted us in advance to give us really useful travel advice. The ferry dropped us straight to the guest house so we didn’t have to carry our bags a long distance. We were in the lagoon room which had an amazing view. Really good value for money. I definitely recommend this place. "

"It was a good stay for one night. We arrived by boat and I was happy with the arrangement to be sure to arrive to the correct hotel. The staff of the hotel was really nice and the service was good."

"Brilliant hotel in a great beach-front location. The room was very large and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was very good. The staff were all very nice and extremely helpful, particularly Leo who was regularly ensuring that we were happy with everything. Breakfast is made to order to suit your preferences and was very tasty. Nice hammocks to relax in. The staff even took our luggage to the dock for us"

"Excellent stay at Mawamba lodge. Gardens around the ground are great and we saw sloths and Toucans a short walk from our room. Breakfast was great as was the dinner we had at the restaurant. Pool can get quite busy with families and children. Town is only a short walk away or they can provide a river taxi. "Beautiful hotel in a beautiful area. You are not in the main town so do need to get a boat if you want meals elsewhere and they do offer complimentary transport but the last one comes back at 5 so if you want dinner out you have to pay for the boat. That was really the only inconvenience but it wouldn't stop me from booking again. They helped us book the tours and it was easy and practical. "

"Really authentic place. Beautiful grounds, we saw lots of birds here, and big iguanas. The swimming pool is beautiful and relaxing. Comfy rooms. Make sure to book your tours from here. We booked our turtle tour and canoe tour from here. Our turtle guide is miss Nori from the hotel. She is beyond amazing! She is local, so knowledgeable and does patrols along the beach to protect the turtles. Really admirable!"

"We had a fantastic stay loved the boat ride to the lodge, rooms were spacious, lovely big bathroom Balcony had a lovely swinging seat overlooking the river Breakfasts were fruit plus fish of your choice and was excellent Trails around the hotel were great to see frogs and birds We did a fantastic magical kayaking trip which is a must We visited national park to see turtles laying eggs, unfortunately she Borykng the hole before laying eggs but we did see the turtle going back to the sea and the hole shed dug, still a memorable experience A highlight were the iguanas lounging around the pool with us and the macaws hanging out in the trees "

"The staff is very nice. Book some tours through their partner agency because they have friendly and knowledgeable guides. A few friendly cats in the area, buy some whiskers from the grocery store and make some friends. Sloths in the tree outside. The beach is a few feet away if that’s your thing as well, very shallow water but a refreshing dip. The jungle park is just down the street, 6km out and back close to the beach with some good wildlife. Friendly locals, probably a bit crowded during busy season, but all good vibes. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants but they all have similar menus, not the greatest cuisine but good enough. "
