One of the world's biggest Ferris wheels takes you so high up that you can often see three countries in one go.

There are few views of Singapore as mesmerising as that from the Singapore Flyer. Reaching 165 metres high, this gigantic landmark is the world's largest observation wheel. Climb aboard one of the spacious, air-conditioned capsules for what might be the most memorable 30 minutes of your trip. Seats are provided for those who have difficulty standing for prolonged periods.

The Singapore Flyer lifts you well above the city's signature skyscrapers, allowing you a panoramic view of the island. Landmarks to look out for while you're up there include Collyer Quay, Fort Canning Park, Empress Place and the Singapore F1 Grand Prix circuit. In fact, when weather conditions are right, you can see three countries – Singapore, Malaysia and the Indonesian island of Batam.

A number of Singapore Flyer packages are available to make your experience even more special. High tea, cocktails and butlered dining (a world first) are all options. It's also possible to book a capsule for a short birthday party. Otherwise, make the most of your trip by taking photos of the sights. The vistas are equally as stunning by night as they are by day.

At the Singapore Flyer Retail Terminal, treat yourself to reflexology and fish spa treatments. Or visit the multimedia exhibition – Journey of Dreams – which describes how the Singapore Flyer came about. Entrance to this is included in the ticket price. There's also a gift shop selling branded mementos of your 'flight'.

The Singapore Flyer is located at 30 Raffles Avenue on the edge of downtown. If travelling on MRT, get off at the Promenade Station on the Circle Line. The Singapore Flyer is open daily and tickets can be purchased online or at the attraction itself. Queues are generally short outside of peak season. Tickets are not cheap, but the experience reflects the price. Certain discounts apply when you book on the website.
