"Before we arrived we were asked if it was possible that we could arrive a bit later at 5pm since they were struggling to get back on time to hand us the keys since they live next door, we agreed since you dont want to upset owners that live next door.
When they arrived they were very chatty about another business they own and how busy they were.
Good things about the property were the bathroom with a huge bath and separate shower and the comfy bed mattress. The kitchen has a lot utensils and there is a large wood fire if you need to light it. Soon though we found that the settee smelt of dog and had a greasy feel, we covered it with a blanket so we could sit down. When trying to cook we found a splash guard for a pan was still covered in some kind of gravy. Items such as the salt and pepper shaker were very dirty so we left them. We soaked the teapot in bleach for a day to remove the black which was mouldy from the inside after that we just washed everything we needed even if it looked clean.
When we went to bed we found that although the mattress was comfy the pillows smelt of dog. And also the bath mat was wet which led me to believe it was not clean. Two mats in the down stairs room were not clean. We brought disinfectant spray and incense to remove the dog smell in the property. The saving grace was the friendly pub just down the road which opens wednesday to sunday and serves great food.
This property could be great but needs checking properly

"It is a true gem of a hotel. Beautiful buildings, both old and new, and a magical garden. Two residents lounges plus a library with pool/snooker table. Reception were efficient and friendly, and the room exceeded our expectations, with wonderful attention to details. I am not a breakfast lover, but there was plenty of xhoice, and frankly the best hotel breakfast I have ever sampled. The situation of the hotel made it easy to walk to the old castle, and Sherborne itself is picturesque and full of history. A wonderful break for us both, and Bruce the dog."
"Dog friendly hotel where rooms are superb, clean and spacious and well laid out. It was our second visit and although it is not the cheapest hotel, it is worth the extra if you want to spoil yourself a little. "
"Amazing country pub, warm welcome from Steve owner and buddy (dog). Clean room with comfortable bed and large shower room. Currently renovating the kitchen but breakfast served up in the top garden. Breakfast made to order and was delicious. We ate there three nights fresh pizza made to order in pizza oven using some produce from well stocked organic garden. The regulars and staff were so welcoming for a small village.
Even met a kindered spirit originally from cleckheaton (Nick) the gardener.
If you want a warm welcome with home comforts at a good price make The Mitre Inn Your next stop.
Until next year!!"
