The owner is awesome, help us with restaurant n places to interest to visit. Very friendly, breakfast very good. Hair dryer alittle old, not enough to dry hair.
There are stargrazing offered by the host on his own initiative.
Best to include half-board (Dinner Breakfast) as you need to drive out to find restaurants (and most will close by 5 or 6 pm) and quite a distance away
Need to pre-order the breakfast and breakfast, as last minute request is not acceded.
We have an excellent breakfast offered.
We find the dinner menu (as shared by the host) has an excellent spread.
Strongly recommend for those who want peace and quiet and a very host (together with his wife) who is very friendly and caring
The hosts where very friendly and accommodating. My son has celiac disease and they were able to cater to him at short notice. They also drove us around sight seeing as we had no car also at short notice. Didn't find the beds really comfortable
Truly wonderful stay in the Aso Kyushu area of Japan
Plenty of walking and sightseeing after a superb breakfast
Our host helped us to plan our trips with personal maps
We could view the night skies from the observatory in the garden
We arrived without a car (our fault). Owners were fantastic and took us on tours around the National Park twice. Fabulous hospitality and we had dinner there three evenings and it’s the best food we’ve had in Japan, delicious and presentation was excellent.

Disliked: Staff & service
The air con had clearly not been cleaned for a Long time, as it had a mouldy smell when switched on. As a result, we had no option but to sleep with the windows open instead. Apart from that, the room was generally clean. The private hot bath was nice. The old man who received us was friendly at first. However, our experience was ruined during check-out. We had started to drag our luggage out of the room when he came to our room at 9.58am (2 minutes before official check-out time) to chase us out. We had barely removed all our luggage from the room when he started cleaning. We found that rather rude and uncalled for. After all, occupancy rate was very Low at that time as no other rooms in the cottage was occupied. In our rush to leave, we may also have left an item behind in the room. We emailed the cottage to ask if the item was found, but received no response. It would appear that once they’ve secured your business, service doesn’t matter anymore...
Excellent hospitality and the breakfast (Western type non buffet) which is included is great. The only regret we have is that we did not try the dinner because they do not do walk-in and house guest like us have to make pre-booking 2 days in advance.
