Beautiful unique old hotel. We stayed there because of loving history. The staff person was cordial but had no knowledge of the history. The hotel had many open, nice rooms, but we were given a room that had water damaged ceiling with ceiling parts hanging down, water damaged, discolored wall paper, not clean.

I am rating this place 5 stars because it was exactly what we needed. Inexpensive, convenient, comfortable, friendly staff and owner. It is a historic property with plenty of old history to look at. It is not a high end luxury place by any means. If you are looking for that keep looking. Don’t book this place and expect to get luxury at this reasonable cost. You get what you pay for! I will definitely stay here again. Like I said exactly what I was looking for! Oh, and incredibly good food across the street. Just a great little town. Reminded me of where I grew up.

This is a historic hotel over 120 years old. The hotel is mostly original with some updates in the bathroom. Since it is older the room size was naturally smaller than today’s standard. I enjoyed the antiques and antique furniture in the rooms and it reminded me of times got by. I enjoyed my stay and appreciated the hotel for its historic value.

An old hotel with atmosphere
We had a good stay at the Kempton. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Ambiance of hotel was good with homey touches and western decor (saddles). Hotel dates to 1912 and the contrast to the basic modern hotels is comforting. I would stay there again if in the area. Having said all that, the hotel is showing its age. The roof was recently fixed so now maybe they can fix the ceiling that was shedding its paint in several spots (there were big paint flakes on the floor and several areas of denuded ceiling). We had a wasp and 2 mesquitos in the room and ran the air conditioner continuously to cool and aerate the room. Our bathroom was next door and very convenient. Room was small but serviceable and prices were very reasonable. Hopefully they can catch up on property appeal.

The Kempton was actually opened in June of 1902. We have kept four rooms in their original form and function which includes showering and bathrooms "down the hall". The balance of the Hotel Rooms, Studios, and Cabins have there own bathrooms and most have been fully remodeled.The review is is accurate in that we have just finished the new roof. The after roof renovations" include new ceilings where the "leaks" caused damage, some wall coverings, and some rooms complete renovation.The Kempton, today, has been open 44,293 days without interruption. When "anonymous" stays again we hope to have earned a 10 of 10.

Tried to cancel reservation, but had terrible time trying to contact Expedia. Will not use that company again. My wife and I did not stay there so I can't evaluate the conditions.

Rooms and beds were fine. Liked all the western, Indian, cowboy, historical decorations. Friendly staff. Nothing you can do about the noise outside—loud talking, train whistles, construction banging. Great experience.

This place is a hidden gem. It was quaint, clean, and well appointed. The price was very reasonable for what we got. The staff were friendly and engaging. We would stay again!

This place was super cute, and had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in in a hotel. Of course, it's historical, so it is old, but try not to judge it based on that - it's part of the charm! The staff were super friendly and I'll definitely stay here again. Thank you!

I loved the quiet town, everyone was so friendly, and it is the perfect place to rest. Yet the history, comfort and charm of stepping back in time at The Kempton is the most special part of the experience. A very comfy bed with the feeling of being part of the family, even for the two nights I stayed there, I would go out of my way to stay there again. Much gratitude for the pleasure of experiencing this very unique hotel.

This review is bogus. This person did not stay with us. We are a Historical Hotel built in 1902 including four rooms that have been "left as they were" with the exception of a sink added in about 1906 and then AC, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. New queen beds complete the room. On 26 July 23 the State of Montana Food and Public Health Service performed their bi-annual inspection; a copy which is available. Not only was there NO MOLD we were once again complimented on the overall cleanliness and condition of the Hotel. This traveler made a reservation on line with out reading what he was reserving a few hours before he came in; now it is every excuse including not taking responsibility for his actions to not honor the contract which includes a late cancellation fee. Truthfulness was not part of his review.

This place is not your typical motel by the interstate. It's a historical gem decorated well...in a Montana style. Staff who greeted us was great but there was one cleaning dude oe ex-convict who was curt in the morning. Aside from him everything was great.

This was the coolest little hotel! Built in 1902, it had furnishings and artwork depicting that era in the west. Of course, it had been upgraded to include a modern bathroom and internet access, but we loved the vibe. It made you feel like you were there in the old West in the early 1900’s. We loved it and will stay there again when we are passing through.

It was a historic place to stay and appreciated it's place in time. Very old fashioned with shared bathrooms and just one shower that is shared. It is not the Taj Mahal, but for a place to sleep and then hit the road the next day, it was just fine.

A true antique hotel. It was clean and rustic. Loved the stay. I had dinner across the street at the Legion. One of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. Overall a very nice stay in a cool old west kind of place.
