"Staff were kind and friendly. Food was good in the bar but over priced. My room was grubby, the bedding and bathroom were clean but there was dust and dirt on the ledges and windowsills. No shower gel in the bathroom either. I was also above the kitchen there was lots of banging about outside and a constant humming/droning from what sounded like extractor fans. This did stop around 9pm but then started up again at 10pm. It was really quite loud, I could still hear it when I had my headphones in. I was charged twice, payment taken by expedia and by the hotel. I have been advised that the hotel have refunded my payment but nothing showing yet. It is such a shame this beautiful building is being left to deteriorate but not spending money is one thing, there is no excuse for it not being cleaned properly."

"Lovely place to stay room was spacious bed was comfortable even if a little squeaky breakfast was huge and delicious bar meals were lovely and very reasonably priced the staff were all lovely highly recommended "

"Walking distance to the shops. Steep stairs on entry and several changes in floor level within the flat. Difficult for an elderly guest. Very quiet."

"We were very pleased with the property but we had several concerns. The property description listed a dryer but there was none. If we’d known we’d have brought a clothes line and pegs. We’d advise future guests to bring some extra toilet paper (only one roll was provided). Also bring some extra dishwasher tablets (two were provided) but if you are staying for more than a few days you might need them. A dish scrubber would be handy since there were only J-clothes and a soft bristle brush. Be aware that the parking space is very tight. This can’t be helped due to the age of the area. Other than these issues we were very impressed with the property."

"Very spacious well equipped cottage situated just off the main street of Barnard Castle right by the parish church. We were able to check in early, which was a big help, and when we arrived we delighted to see how spotlessly clean it was. The beds and furnishing were comfortable and would have no hesitation in reccommending the cottage to our friends and family"
