"I had an absolutely terrible experience at The New Yorker Hotel. After my stay, I was hit with a $500 "smoking fee" despite the fact that I do not smoke and did not smoke in the room. This is a blatant cash grab and a complete lack of integrity on the hotel's part. When I tried to resolve this on-site, the lack of professionalism was staggering. I requested to speak with a manager and was simply handed a business card. I have reached out multiple times to the contact provided, but they have completely ignored my messages. I also asked for a manual check (instead of automated sensor) to check for smoke and was denied. Attempting to dispute the charge has been a nightmare because of their refusal to communicate. Warning to future travelers: Stay elsewhere. There are plenty of hotels in New York that won't slap you with fraudulent fees and then hide behind a non-responsive management team. This was a dishonest and stressful experience from start to finish."

"Room was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. I wish the room had a coffee maker or hotpot. "

"The bathroom shower in room 914 was clogged. All other amenities were up to par."

"Lively but not noisy or overcrowded. Room was tiny but cozy. Best was the alcove with the bed by the floor to ceiling window with remotely operated shades with a view. My one improvement would be the closet. People on the short side can’t reach the rods to hang my clothes."

"Staff were all very nice and helpful. The rooms were very poorly maintained and honestly more aligned with a two star hotel. "

"We were excited to stay here, but this hotel is just okay. My family has eaten downstairs at Friedman's many times because it is a safe and delicious gluten free restaurant, and we thought it would be fun to stay at the hotel with its old-timey charm. The rooms were typically small, which was not a problem or a surprise. What surprised us was that they were not well appointed. There was no furniture in the room other than two beds and one nightstand. Zero place to put down your things other than the floor. This made for an awkward/uncomfortable stay with things on the bed or piled on our suitcases. Bathroom was extremely tiny as well, though seemed to have been somewhat recently renovated. For the money, I will look elsewhere next time."

"The hotel was very clean and the staff was absolutely wonderful. The vending machine downstairs was not working, so there was no place to get bottled water, a soda or really anything to drink unless you bought it off property. The decor is definitely dated, but it was perfect for our weekend Stay in New York City. "
