2. Fram Museum

3. Kon Tiki Museum

Thor Heyerdahl was a Norwegian explorer and ethnographer who decided to test his theory that ancient peoples could have made long sea voyages by making the journeys himself in primitive craft. He built the Kon-Tiki from balsa wood and bamboo, inspired partly by old drawings of Inca rafts, and sailed it successfully across the Pacific from Peru to Polynesia in 1947.

The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History provides a comprehensive introduction to six centuries of social history. As well as an indoor museum displaying traditional costumes, woodcarvings and church art, the vast open-air museum brings together over 150 typical buildings from all over Norway, representing different architectural styles and different periods in its history.
