1. Gare de Limoges

A fantasy in white limestone and green oxidized copper, the Gare de Limoges-Bénédictins is one of the most photogenic locations in all of Limoges. The train station seamlessly marries multiple architectural styles, from belle époque to art nouveau and art deco. Its elaborate decoration is a magnificent example of early 20th-century public architecture. Rising above the city near the Le Jardin du Champ de Juillet, it cannot be missed. Arrive in Limoges by train to see it as an introduction to the city or visit on a walking tour.

2. Limoges Cathedral

Limoges Cathedral, standing proud upon its hill on the banks of the Vienne River, was a labor lasting 600 years for city residents. Construction began in 1273 and ended in the late 19th century, when the nave was finally connected to the church’s bell tower on foundations first created in Roman times. Despite its extended construction history, the church stands as a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, one of few south of the Loire. Approach from the river to see it rise above the trees or wander here through the Old Town.

3. Church of St-Michel-des-Lions

The Church of St.-Michel-des-Lions, with its 200 foot tall (65 meter) bell tower, is a splendid example of Limousin religious architecture. Let the sight of the peaked tower guide you as you wander through the streets until you arrive at the cobbled square before the entrance.

4. Adrien Dubouché National Museum

5. Jardin de l'Eveche

6. Musée de la Résistance

Spread over two floors in a historic convent in Old Town Limoges, the Musée de la Résistance commemorates and explores the history of the Résistance and of Haute-Vienne’s role in Vichy France. Limoges was a particular hotbed of the Résistance. The massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane occurred only a few miles away. Prepare to have your thoughts provoked by this museum, whose commitment is to keep this history alive for all, especially young people.
