Cancelling a reservation at the last minute is already disruptive; doing so under the guise of a conveniently vague “plumbing issue” makes it worse. If the hotel overbooked, just say so. Fabricating an excuse doesn’t protect your reputation—it damages it. What’s equally frustrating is the complete lack of communication. No email, no advance notice—just a cancellation that I had to discover on my own upon arrival. A simple message would have at least shown a baseline level of professionalism and respect for your guests’ time. But I suppose putting the real reason—or even the false one—in writing might have required some accountability. At the end of the day, mistakes happen. It’s how you handle them that defines your service. In this case, the response felt evasive, disorganized, and inconsiderate. I expected better."
