The Hotels.com website obscured the fact that the hotel is 4km from Trat, with nothing around it, inside glowing reviews. The price point I paid at meant no refund was available.
The room, bed and pillows smelled badly of mould. I was offered a different one by the helpful and friendly desk staff but I wanted to be in town as I had no car.
The management really ought to regularly ventilate unoccupied rooms. This is basic stuff. The hotel seemed very empty.
High quality fittings and finishes throughout, especially in the bathroom. Wall-mounted soap and shampoo dispensers that worked well. Lots of hot water in the rain shower. Everything very clean and in new condition. Comfortable bed (not too hard, as is usually the case in Thailand). The windows were very effective in keeping out traffic noise and indeed this was one of the quietest rooms I have ever had in Thailand. Fridge, kettle, TV with some English channels, coffee/tea facilities in the room.
Friendly and efficient front desk staff.
Breakfast was OK but uninspiring. The first day there was a choice of Thai and American set breakfasts, served plated. The next day there were more guests and a buffet was available instead, basically including the same ingredients.
I stayed for two nights but my room was not made up for the second night. Perhaps they expected me to indicate if I wanted this.
Location is very easy to find on the main road but the hotel is a couple of km outside of town, so transport is necessary. The hotel also has a conference/events centre and this was quite busy when I was there, though it was in no way inconvenient for hotel guests. The hotel restaurant was quite busy in the evening and the menu selection seemed good and reasonably priced, though I didn't try anything.
Very nice building, well built, spacious, fairly new and nicely fitted out however not five star as claimed. The yard is a little average and the location is not so great but the view is so good. You need a car or taxi to get into town, not so far but beyond walking distance. No shops nearby.
Actually the staff treated us fairly well just that they appear demoralized as clearly management and organisation is not at all good. Breakfast was a bit disappointing with many items missing and the whole breakfast area is a mess with floors and tables that hadn't been cleaned properly in weeks. Sad given it is a nice building. Staff appear to no longer care, each is just doing their own thing to keep a job. Not rude but unsmiling and just not into it.
In the restaurant the service was terrible, almost nothing was available and what was eventually supplied was below average and eat surrounded by uncleaned tables. This place needs to be taken over by a company that knows how to run a hotel. Until then I wouldn't return.
