"Beautiful property, wonderful public onsen, and excellent restaurant. Very peaceful location. While I loved my room (which was high up and overlooked the forest), it involved climbing some very steep stairs. Travelers with mobility issues should be careful about which rooms they reserve. I stayed two nights and wish that I had stayed three."

"The lodge was absolutely wonderful. We honestly had not slept as well as we did at the lodge anywhere else in Japan. Not sure if it was the mountain air, the onsen, or the large rooms that allowed us to settle in and spread out. The hospitality was incredible; the hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home, including by providing a bountiful breakfast each morning. My husband and I wish we could have stayed there our entire trip!"

However, if we had known that the cabin was 2 km away from the hotel, we probably would not have stayed. I booked it because of its proximity to echo land. However, the cabins were located 2 km outside of town, and although there was a shuttle it would’ve been super helpful to have a car. in addition, the cabin was very cold. "Shane (owner) was very accommodating and helpful, overall good guy. Everyone that works there was equally helpful and in a good mood. Awesome breakfast every morning. The lodge is a short 5 to 10 minute walk to town, and to the lifts. Would definitely stay at Alpine Lodge again. "

"Great fun hotel. The Captain who owns the place is an 80 year old Japanese Olympic ski racer and full of interesting stories and enthusiasm for skiing and the mountains. His son Ken is also a good and enthusiastic skier. Everyone speaks great english. Dinner was excellent and included the best fried chicken my 12 year old son has EVER had. Breakfast good too. "I really enjoyed my time at Dark Horse. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, and helped out in many ways, both big and small. Breakfasts and dinners were good and the lounge/dining room was a comfortable place to relax after riding. It was great value for the money.
