Rolling hills, thick woodlands, wild oak forests and impressive Viking monuments make this one of Denmark's most dramatic landscapes.

Vejle is located on the pretty Kattegat area, surrounded by rolling, tree-lined hills. See relics that date to the Stone Age, including one of the world’s best-preserved Viking monuments.

Begin exploring the city centre by foot and learn about nature, technology, climate, energy and the environment at the Økolarie. Rest in the Rådhustorvet (Town Hall Square), look toward the Vejle Town Hall and listen for the bell that was rung in medieval times to call monks to mass. Behind the town hall is the Residensgården, (Old Royal Residence) where King Christian II occasionally stayed before he fled Denmark in the 1520s.

Visit the Vejle Museerne to view etchings by Rembrandt. Walk through the Iron Age model settlement at Vingsted Historic Workshop. Here, take part in interactive workshops or learn about heritage crafts.

View the impressive UNESCO-listed Jelling Monuments. The larger stone, created by Viking King Harald Bluetooth, is considered the first commemoration of the Danish Nation. Next to it is the country’s name certificate, carved by King Gorm the Old, Harald’s father. Explore the town of Jelling’s significant Viking monuments, including the reconstructed pier heads of the Ravning Bridge, two large barrows and a wooden tomb.

Walk or cycle in the footsteps of pilgrims, beggars, robbers and noblemen on the 34-mile-long (55-kilometre) Ancient Road. Stop at some of the many attractions including the zoo, a large inland sandy heath, pine plantations, windmills, a glacial rock from Åland Lake, Bronze Age monuments and a historic royal inn.

Drive through the scenic countryside of Vejle Ådal, through moorlands, woodlands and rolling hills. Visit the historic town of Egtved to see the Egtved Girl’s Barrow, where a beautifully preserved Bronze Age coffin was discovered.

Bring kids to enjoy the world’s biggest Lego model at Legoland or a safari ride at Givskud Zoo. Vejle, the capital of southeast Jutland, makes a great base to explore regional sights. It is a 25-minute drive from Billund International Airport and connects to most major hubs with bus and train services.
