The Standard Brussels

"We had a great stay. Room was clean and the view was good. Gym was fine, small but had the basics needed for a short work out. We had an issue with the staff at Lila 29 on the night we wanted to grab a drink, they were busy but managed to find us a table. The staff member was rude, didn’t greet us on arrival and didn’t walk us to our table, just pointed from across the room ‘you can sit there, order at the bar because service is very slow’ and left us to it. Didn’t give us a menu or show any willingness to help. The bar was busy and there weren't any menus anywhere visible so we just left. After returning home we noticed we had a charge to the card we paid the €400 deposit on. Only of around €20, but with no receipt or acknowledgement of what this charge was for. We didn’t use anything from the mini bar but were given a box of chocolates on arrival for my partners birthday, along with a card from the hotel. This was a lovely gesture but less lovely if that’s what we ended up being charged for! All in all, we had a good time and would return to another standard hotel. They’re very cool and very beautiful but the staff lacked warmth in our experience."

"I arrived at this hotel for a 5 night stay as a home base in Belgium. My room was 26 degrees, in May. I had not slept for 30 hours and all I wanted was to sleep. I turned on the AC and the temperature rose from 26 to 28. I went to the front desk and they informed me that AC is not on this time of year (it's May) and to open my windows and turn the AC off. The temperature stayed around 27 degrees (around 80.) I went 3 hours later to the front desk and the assured me maintenance would be there in 30 minutes. Maintenance did not do anything. I did not sleep. Also, the bathrooms are "wet rooms" where the shower water covers the floor by the sink and toilet. This is not what you want when using the restroom at night... My temperature stayed above 26.5 the entire night with the windows open hearing the very busy traffic noise. In the morning, I checked out and moved to the Marriott. The hotel never contacted me nor gave me any refund or credit or apology. The front desk worker was nice and the restaurant bar was nice but that's about it. The location is slightly sketchy and not nice looking. I paid $1000 for 1 sleepless night. This is the single worst hotel experience I have ever had. Instead, I recommend the Grand Place Marriott which was infinitely better in terms of location and comfort."

"Unfortunately our flight was too early for us to try the breakfast menu....Maybe next time!! The shuttle service was very good and much appreciated!! Two suggestions... 1) A clearer indication as to where to wait for the shuttle would be helpful. 2) Perhaps a shelter should be considered in the event of rain"
