The Horseshoe Inn

"Whatever structural deficiencies the physical building may have, and there were a few, the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by hosts Jamie and Rob more than made up for it. The Horseshoe Inn is the type of place where you are immediately treated as family, and you don't want to leave at the end of your stay because you're afraid no one else would do it any better. Jamie and Rob do everything, from preparing and cooking all their menu items from scratch, chatting up their regular pub customers, making sure you have what you need. If you are looking for an authentic slice of small-town British life that will create a wonderful memory, look no farther. -- Greg from Williamsburg, VA"

"The hotel and staff were fantastic but the noise from drunk people using the drinking area on top of the room and opposite was not nice as woken with shouting/swearing late at night driving off in there loud exhaust car parked under our room window (not an official space either). Air con would be useful. Restaurant was lovely."

"Really enjoyed our overnight stay in the King Penguin room at the Sheep & Pigeon. Room was very clean, comfortable, well equipped and quiet. We had a lovely evening meal . Recommend the River Teign mussels . Staff were welcoming & attentive ."

"Lovely spacious, clean & comfortable apartment in excellent location few minutes walk to Wells & shops. Good place to stay for exploring other attractions around the area, Cheddar Gorge, Haynes Motor Museum, Bath, etc. I would highly recommend especially for a couple. Not suitable for wheelchair bound or those who have difficulty with stairs as it is situated on the fourth floor with four flights of stairs to climb."

"A 3-star hotel / bed-and-breakfast - very personal, friendly service. The hotel is visited daily by locals buying newspapers. All meals cooked to order, including breakfast - a nice change to the usual experience in hotels nowadays. We turned up at about 4.30pm to find opening time was 5pm - we must have missed this in the instructions. The hotel was open promptly at 5 pm however. On the Sunday the bar closed at 5pm so dinner had to be elsewhere - not a problem for us as we always tend to have a meal in the hotel on the first night, then try other restaurants elsewhere. The owner told us about the history of the hotel - they have been there for around 26 years. All in all, a very relaxed, personal atmosphere, a nice change from the usual hotel experience."

"A really beautiful house and location. Room was large and bed very comfortable. Very welcoming and great recommendation for dinner and booked us a table. Breakfast had a wide choice of options and the full English was very tasty with locally sourced food. Would highly recommend"
