"I want to be fair in my review as the room was very nice and we had a decent breakfast, but we did have an issue which was not dealt with properly by the hotel, leaving us feeling unsafe during our stay.
At around 4pm, having paid for an early check-in, someone entered our room without knocking or making an announcement (the room had a doorbell). I guess they quickly realised their mistake and ran off, as by the time my wife went to see who it was, they were gone. I immediately called reception, who didn't answer the phone (not good!) so I went to the front desk and was told they would investigate urgently, letting me know once they had spoken with staff on our floor. We waited in our room for a couple of hours after and heard nothing, so we decided to have a meal in the bar. We returned to our room later in the evening, but there were no messages on the phone/letter under the door so we were understandably nervous that this would happen again.
In my view, this was a pretty serious security issue and one that shouldn't happen in any hotel (let alone at a 5-star).
We were most disappointed that nobody even bothered to contact us after this had been reported. I mentioned this to the reception staff at checkout, who were apologetic but did not have any further info to give us - nor did they offer a manager to speak with us.
I stay in Hamburg several times a year and from now on, it's the Fraser Suites across the road for me!
