"Great little guesthouse in Otaru. Easy 20 minute flat walk from Otaru station, or a 10 minute walk up a slight hill from Miniami Otaru. Supermarket, convenience stores, and public bathhouse all within 10 minute walk from the hostel. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Bunk bed was comfortable and spacious. Toilet was a little small and ceiling was quite low in some places, but nothing far from the norm of a traditional Japanese household. Would definitely stay again."

"Nice hostel in Otaru! Owners are friendly and willing to help out any questions you may have. No kerosene heaters required although there was a small one in my room that I used for a nightstand, not sure why it was there because there was also a wall mounted modern Hitachi ac/heater unit that was quiet and worked perfectly. This was my first hostel stay so the only thing I needed was a larger bath towel that was easily purchased a short walk away. Will be back!"

"check in time is 4 p.m. that 's too late , should be 3 p.m. If you come early you have to stand downstair because the elevator will start to work from check in time or have to wait for customer who has the code to open the main door and climb to the third floor which is the lobby room . "The tasting menu and local wine pairing was the highlight of my stay and may also be the highlight of my 3 week trip of Japan. The quality and thoughtfulness of the dishes are complimented superbly by sommelier So-san's wonderful service and exquisite selection of world-class wine. The room and hotel conditions were good but nothing extraordinary. The main downsides are the poor sound proofing and lack of elevators for those transporting heavy bags."
