A beautiful hotel with grand high ceilings and an eccentric historical townhouse charm. Perfectly located right on the shore of Loch Maree, with private lake access. Our room was peaceful and quiet, offering breathtaking views of the lake. The host was exceptionally friendly, warm and accommodating, adding a welcoming atmosphere to both the hotel and its cosy bar. He went out of his way to meet our requests, making us feel truly cared for. Easily our best experience on the NC500.
It was way overpriced, everything felt & appeared run down. On entering the room the bed appeared unmade, the towels were worn out and ripped as soon as used. There was a strong smell of cigarettes through the evening coming in the room. We left the room at 6.30am the next morning because we just had to get out.
One positive which didn't make up for the negatives was the view of the Loch from the room - through filthy windows !
We stayed here on our NC500 cycling trip. It was an oasis in this remote part of Scotland. Dinner and breakfast were great and the room was comfortable and of a high standard.
Really lovely hotel with cosy lounge with open fire-perfect venue for colder autumn nights. Room was lovely and everywhere seemed freshly painted. Food was good with large portions. Beautiful view and well worth staying for a few days. Very much the Victorian country house hotel.
Pleasant reception and well organised to cope with staff shortages. Large comfortable en-suite room with great view of Loch Maree. Limited but good choice on the dinner menu which suited us. Would stay here again. Very peaceful.

Liked: Cleanliness
The location is wonderful in front of the lake and the traditional house is very cozy. Dinner was quite expensive but quality should be improved.
Fabulous views over loch maree. Stayed during NC500 road trip. Quiant hotel. Waiter service for meals. (Lovely to be waited on)
Water comes from waterfall nearby so water pressure for shower is poor, but ok for a bath. But wouldn’t stop me from returning.
Staff very welcoming and polite.
This is place is a gem in a rather remote area. It's right on the lake, so, depending on the room, you can have a tremendous view right out of your window. It's well-located to nature and the best hiking in Scotland. The married couple that runs the place is very helpful and makes a very tasty breakfast. The hotel is a bit dated, especially in the bathroom, but that's also part of its charm--it's an old-timey hotel in a very scenic area.
A fabulous location for a hotel that is going to be a huge success.
The rooms need a bit of updating but were comfortable and had a great nights sleep.
Food was fabulous and the manager/bellboy/waiter/receptionist/barman was a pleasure to deal with. His service and attention to detail was absolutely first class

Tired but functional - a work in progress!
It is in a beautiful location. The Manager was extremely helpful and friendly but he was the only member of staff front of house. It has just been taken over so hopefully things will improve. The whole place was tired and needs some TLC.
Very old, dated hotel. WAY overpriced. Cold, terrible water pressure and temperature. Room was TINY, bed saggy, pillows hard as a rock. Food was bland and uninteresting. Hotel appeared to have turned off the heat at night to the in-room heaters. Some kind of animal got into the room through the side wall of the bath tub!!
Loved the view. Heating and toilet did not work properly, No signal on TV.
Terrible water pressure. Poor lighting. Sagging mattress on single bed. Hole in wall leading to eaves. Door wouldn't lock. Very poor dining quality. Only one salt and pepper pot between the whole dining room. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
We have travelled and stayed in too many hotels to count. There have so far been 2 that have stood out in our minds as giving excellent service. The Loch Maree has jumped to number one. Duncan who welcomed us, was fantastic. He surpassed any previous number ones! He could not do enough to help and make sure that we were comfortable and had all that we needed. When the Callan, came back from his holiday, he again was lovely, helpful and kind, but Duncan had already taken the top spot. The food was very good. We noticed that some people complained about the lack of choice. It is the end of the season and hotels are closing down, so naturally the choice will be a bit less. Each night there was a couple of different choices, from the night before. Had absolutely no complaint about the food, presentation and flavours.

Disliked: Staff & service
On the NC500 which probably keeps it going.
I didn’t find the owners to be very friendly. They had rules & an unusual way of running the hotel. The dining room was locked when not serving and it was the only room with a view of the loch ( unless you had a room with a view). No shower, only a bath. Limited WiFi but that was ok’ish. Food was limited & average. The breakfast was just ok. No choice of egg, fried and oily.
