"If you do not care for cleanliness, if you do not care being waked up at 06:50 by the landlady having some workers cutting metal on her demand 10m away from your bedroom - oh sorry they stopped for 20mn when I asked if it was really necessary - then this hostal is for you. By the way - a queen bed in their description is a so called “cama imperial” which is not fit for 2 adults. "Hermoso lugar. Quienes nos atendieron fueron cordiales, educados y corteses todo el tiempo. El lugar es lindo en cuanto a naturaleza e infraestructura. Pude llevar a mi perrita y todo estuvo bien. El cafe que sirven es exquisito y el ambiente en el restaurante y la comida excelente también. "

"Rooms where clean but one the blanket of the three bed had musty smell and the door was missing the handle that you pull to open the door from the inside. to open the door you had to use the tip of your finger to pull the Thumbturn knob. Wife broke a nail trying to open door. FYI: Rooms don’t have mosquito nets"

"No tienen personal, el señor encargado de la recepción , e el mesero y el que arregla desperfectos. No hay coordinación apropiada con el transporte a pesar que tiene un costo extra. No lo esperan para recibirlo, estuvimos en la recepción por más de 30 mins sin que nadie nos diera un recibimiento. No sabían que habitación nos correspondía, no habían insumos de limpieza en el baño, el restaurante no abre temprano en la mañana."

"Not nice i was charged twice, booked through expedia, and told me that expedia wasn’t gonna charge me, that it was for information purpose only, that i had to pay cash at check out. Turns out i paid cash, and expedia also charge my card :/. Got charge twice for the same booking"

"Great few days spent here! I recommend staying 2-3 nights... depending on when you arrive, because I highly recommend Semuc Champey and the bat caves (Grutas de Lanquin) which are hard to do in the same day. El Retiro made meals and excursions very worry-free. My only negatives would be the lack of hot water and the cleanliness of the bed, room. It wasn’t very dirty... just wasn’t very clean. Overall a very enjoyable few days spent in Lanquin."

"I expected this place to be basic and the two staff running the place were lovely and it is close to Semuc, about an hour’s walk. But it was a challenging place to stay. There is literally nowhere to put your stuff - no shelves, no hooks, no mirror. Food was bad, no tortillas, no plantains, no cheese. No purified water forcing you to buy plastic bottles in the rainforest. Also they will pick you up at Lanquín and bring you to property but charge you to return and increase the agreed price once...
