Thanks John for appreciating our hotel. yes we are not the Marriott nor is Dominical like the suburbs of California. It’s an authentic beach town in Costa Rica whereby one gets to experience a mix of locals, some tourists, a touch of fancy in a few new places, and laid back surfer style in others. Dominical is not a boutique town (yet) nor is our Hotel. We like laid back and sure Dominical has dirt streets and some tree branches on the beach but that’s what gives it its charm if not being overly touristic and loosing its Flavor. We are a clean, safe and friendly Hotel with great service, a good quiet sleep with a large well kept tropical garden. If you want the Marriot, Dominical is not for you and maybe instead Los Suenos in Jaco or all-inclusive a in Guanacaste. Osa and Dominical and its surrounds offer a multitude of activities and has its own advantages for people who want a more authentic Costa Rica experience. Pura VidaAmy

Thanks for appreciating our Hotel and the property! We have worked very hard to provide an immersion in Nature in town :) We try our best to support other local business, for example the restaurant directly across the street, by not serving breakfast at our Hotel. If we did we would take away a large source of their income and we prefer to have a supportive and harmonious neighborhood. We do indeed have staff living onsite in case of any emergency and I am 24/7 available by whatsapp but as the sun goes down at 5:30pm, so should our staff have the end of their day too. We start early manning the Reception at 8am.also, Late arrivals are Always possible, they just need to be arranged ahead of time, and usually no one needs us in the evenings so 6pm has been working fine for us at Tropical Sands. People just need to ask for what they need before 6pm and they normally do.Pura Vida,

Thanks for staying with us... luckily our Hotel is located on the south and quiet side of town so you had a quiet nights sleep as In the center of Dominical town it is quite noisy ;) You ar here in the town at the MOST BUSY time, right before the Envision festival... so yes! the town is full right now. Next time come in Low season or not in February when we have the most tourists in town. Pura Vida,

Thanks for your review. Yes we do not advertise we have TVs and we do not. But we DO have GREAT fiber optic cable WIFI, so you can easily stream from your phone, tablet or computer what ever you would want to watch. Dear Anonymous, We have had no absent clients? Are you a real person? ALL guests have shown up for all booked reservations. IF you did book here, you would have received an email asking "At what time you will arrive" .We plan our day around the arrival of all our guests. IF someone shows up unexpectedly at a different time than they tell us, or IF we have no response from you, then our Normal Check-In is at 2pm and there is ALWAYS here from 2pm-7pm to let you in. Even if you need to check-in 'after hours', we can do this too, If told ahead of time. We always work with our guests so they can enter the property with easy & flexibility. We even are happy to check-in guests early in the morning if the room is ready from the night before! Plus it is very doubtful that in 45mins no one would have come to the door as we have guests going IN & Out all day long, and our cleaning ladies are here throughout the day. This review is very strange to me, and as you say, you 'never able to checked-in', but we have had no "missing clients" so this review is very weird and I will be contacting Expedia to review this review.

We will take your comment “locked down like a compound” as a compliment - Thank You Bryan. Security and safety for our gusts is very important to us. You booked a room for 1 person but showed up with 2 other people then said you had another friend coming. During the Envision Festival, when 5,000 people come to town, we have to be extra vigilant for the rooms as many people like you book for 1 or 2 people & the next thing we know there are 6+ people in the room. They “just want to take showers” or they “just want to leave their bags in their friend’s room” or they “just want to hang out & use the WiFi”. This is not fair to neither the Hotel nor the other paying guests. The standard practice in Dominical, as does the Hostel you reference across the street, Does NOT allow unregistered guests on their property and every person pays to be there. If you took offense to us not wanting to let your friends to stay for free to use our Hotel facilities, then you should have better read about where you were booking. Our Hotel Policy clearly states no unregistered guest allows on the property, that we do not take credit cards and that the first nights payment will be requested via PayPal as a deposit once you book. I offer Friends&Family to save YOU the 4% fee they charge, but you can certainly pay by Goods&Services,you will need to add a 4% charge on top of the room rate. I believe all of your complaints could have been easily solved if you had just READ your booking confirmation & hotel policies before booking with us and arriving. Ultimately 2 of your friends who stayed told us how they loved the property, they loved our hotel and we had several nice friendly conversations.You arrived in a bad humor and you left in a bad humor. Next time have more respect for the businesses you patronize & realize you don't get special treatment cause your from USA.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! Yes, in High Season, February, it is the hottest time to be here so an AC room is recommended. But every person's comfort level and personal body temperature is different... best to book accordingly. In comparison to the other hotels in town, we have the most affordable AC rooms! The majority of our beds are firm but we have been told by the majority of our clients that they have had the BEST sleep in all their travels here with us at Tropical Sands Dominical. Again this is a personal comfort level, bu we do have rooms with softer mattresses, you just need to let us know which you prefer! We are happy to accommodate according to your desires! We have 10 AC rooms & 4 (2)fan cabins! Next time, please book accordingly to your desires...or you could have let us know and we would have been very happy to move you to one of our modern, spacious and comfortable AC rooms. I waited for you until 10pm, 3 hours AFTER our normal office hours, then finally closed the reception. We assumed you were a NO-SHOW as you had NOT responded to any of my 3 emails asking for your arrival time & confirming your reservation over a 10 day period BEFORE your arrival date. You did not respond to any of my emails. Our hotel policies are very clear. The reception closes at 7pm and a late arrival CAN BE easily arranged if you let us know. Our phone number is easily found on GOOGLE so you could have called us if you had any delay. You did not. You room was Not given away but instead we LOST the money as you had not shown up for your room during operating hours. It was held for you. We even turned away others looking for a room (We always put the sign up after closing hours to not bothered guests by people ringing the bells late at night) I was very gracious and DID NOT charge you the first night fee which I could have easily have done as this is our hotel policy, and clear if you had read your booking in details. Instead, I waived it, you did not have any fee, you paid nothing, so maybe instead of complaining and have giving us a low undeserved review and 1 star, you should be saying THANK YOU. I try to be kind and flexible with bookers as situations do change but normally our guests are communicative with us before arriving. This is a very good thing for you to learn when traveling that communicating with your prospective hotel to ensure an easy Check-In AND arriving anywhere after 10pm, especially in a small town, you most likely will find everything closed (except for the flea bag hostels) Ultimately this was your responsibility and could have been avoided if you let us know before your arrival.
