"Great hotel with Great facilities "

The Carlton Hotel

"Avoid this hotel and book elsewhere. The condition of the property was completely unacceptable and we were unable to stay, so we had to pay for another hotel immediately. We were shown multiple rooms after complaining about the first one, but every room offered was in the same filthy condition. The cleanliness throughout the hotel was shocking. Carpets were thick with dust and covered in debris, there was a strong smell of damp, mould and urine upstairs, and the rooms had dirty marks, dust on surfaces and headboards, and an overall feeling of neglect. None of the rooms appeared fit for guests to stay in. The manager on duty the night we arrived agreed the rooms were dirty and even started cleaning while we were leaving. He assured us we would receive a full refund because we could not stay there. However, the senior manager later refused the refund and would not speak to us directly, which was extremely unprofessional. The online photos are very misleading and do not reflect the actual condition of the hotel. Even the parking area was awful — just a muddy, run-down piece of land behind the building rather than a proper maintained car park. I have reported the hotel to the local council as I believe the condition of the property is a serious hygiene concern. This is by far the dirtiest hotel I have ever seen and I would strongly advise others not to book the Carlton hotel"

"We booked twin room but upgraded to a family room 426 honestly the room was tiny my husband stayed on the sofa bed which had a big hump in it 😡 room looked nothing like the pictures very dissatisfied we had a long drive home so felt sorry for my partner having to sleep in a sofa bed which needs to be binned "

"My second stay here and the experience both times has been very similar. It is a stunning building in beautiful grounds. Some of the staff are really nice but some really couldn't care less. On this trip the gentleman on breakfast just barked "room number" when I approached. He didn't offer me any tea or coffee either - although I heard him offer someone else some. Maybe he forgot or maybe he didn't like the look of me. I also had a problem with the automatic blinds. They are remote control - the remote control did not work. I reported it to the front desk and when I returned there was no update and they still didn't work. So no privacy. The room was spacious and pleasant to be in but some of the team members let this place down!"

"We stayed here as a stopover before going to Le Shuttle early the next day. Great location for a stopover, check-in was smooth and easy, rooms very clean and nicely decorated…hotel rooms had a refurb in Sep ‘25. Good pub food as well. Early checkout was also easy with a drop key box for those leaving before reception is staffed. All in all for the price point we would definitely work this stop off into our travel plans for future France trips"
