My friends and I enjoyed this property immensely as part of our getaway to Big Sur. Comfortable beds and room, friendly staff, delicious restaurant & coffee shop, warm fireplace in the lobby and restaurant, great gift shop and a perfect location. We hiked the nearby trails in the beautiful redwoods that were spectacular. Parking is easy. It's a beautiful, comfortable, fantastic lodge! Thanks to the superb and friendly staff for making us feel so welcomed and happy here. We can't wait to come back and stay again.

Run down and thin walls
I read all the reviews so expected a lot of this but was still surprised. The walls are THIN. Seriously thin. I could literally hear everyone’s word for word conversation in the rooms around me. No privacy. Rooms are seriously RUN DOWN. Like I get it’s not a 5-star hotel but chipped paint, dirty coffee makers, smoke stained chimney. Even without the fireplace lit, the whole room smelled like smoke. I felt like with what I spent, there is a minimal level of service and maintenance expected. Customer service was meh. Between the front desk and the restaurant, I had to go find someone to help. And they seemed shocked I could want something. And the food at the restaurant was barely ok. I would definitely not make a trip back just for the food. Big Sur as a destination is great but I don’t see myself coming back to Big Sur Lodge. Next time I’ll try someplace else.

If you want a quiet, off of the map, unplugged, magical experience, this is it. The rooms are not fancy, no Wi-Fi, no TV, no frills. The beds were decently comfortable and we had a fireplace and a small deck to sit on. That being said, the lodge is extremely nice with a fire going and a place to hang out, books to read with comfortable seating, a coffee shop, a restaurant with very friendly service, and a gift shop. There are no words for beauty of the grounds, it’s like being in a fairytale. We will definitely be back!

Nice stay, could be better
Stayed here for two nights on our first trip to Big Sur. The location and the surroundings of the property can’t be beat with lots of wooded trails to check out right off of the property which was fantastic. We arrived late (around 8 pm ish I think) on what was probably a busy day which I understand but there was just one other family ahead of us and nobody after us, which is why it felt a little odd that the check-in process felt rushed. Since there was a storm and we were traveling with a toddler, I had a couple of questions. But the kid who checked us in was unnecessarily curt. Okay, whatever! So, I let it be. Anyway, we checked in and got free entry to three local state parks which was nice but as luck would have it, we ended up spending a lot of time in the room because of the rain. The cottages themselves are spacious and feel private with a nice balcony overlooking the trees and a cute skylight. However, everything in there felt dated and definitely needed a good dusting. I agree with one of the previous reviewers who said the walls were paper thin because we could hear every time our neighbor sneezed. Lol! But it was mostly quiet. There is also no wifi and the cellular reception is spotty. The heater in the room rattled all night but kept us warm albeit the dust on it was slightly concerning. All in all, it was a rustic, peaceful stay but I am not sure it justified the $$$ though.

There was so much smoke spot on our chimney. The air was awful to breath inside the units. I have three small children and there was very little ventilation. We asked the front desk if the soot was normal because we felt like we slept in an ash tray.

Liked everything. Read prior reviews and came prepared for cabin style stay with warm clothes and our own entertainment. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurant had brunch on Sunday that was great. Hiked to Molera beach using the parks pass.

We stayed in a two queen bed cabin with a fireplace. It was clean and had skylights in the living room and a pull out sofa. They kindly set firewood, fire starter bricks and matches outside your door each day. It is a step up from camping, but does get a bit cold because the space heater doesn't really cover the whole room w the lofty ceilings. The manager was very kind when I called in advance to adjust my reservation, but one of the women who worked the front desk was incredibly unfriendly and dismissive. I don't want to penalize them too much for this, as I know it's tough to find quality staff in the hospitality world right now. The cabins are literally amongst the redwoods and there are gorgeous trails on the property and you get free access to the park as well. We might stay here again with family. I recommend asking about the location of your cabin because we were facing the pool and would have preferred to have a view of redwoods.

This is one of the best experiences that I have had! Everything in the room makes sense! The bed is so comfortable, and the room is beautiful, clean, comfortable, and quiet, the cabin has a great location, with good hiking trails nearby, staff members are friendly!!

Road to our cabin was very narrow and scary to drive at night. Very noisy heater that was something from the 1950’s. No air conditioning. Inadequate lighting. People that work there are nice. Lobby was nice but dining room was basic and food was very average.

We had mice in our room and the people here were so helpful. Never saw a mouse again after the first night. They took care of it. We are in the middle of the forest and it’s been raining a bit.

Great location and the staff went above and beyond to help with late check-in (anytime after 8p). Pros: Loved the fireplace and daily firewood restock. Loved the quiet and access to the hiking trails. Loved the ample hot water in the shower. Cons: Mattress was very firm and no direct path to the lodge without walking on the road. Don’t expect great internet or cellphone connectivity but that’s kind of the point.

Magical Big Sur vacation, front office reception A /friendly and accommodating. Large basic room, no TV or WiFi or bathtub, felt more like I was staying at a conference center than luxury hotel. Pool experience- meh.

I don't understand any of the negative reviews. Everything, at least in cabin 33, was wonderful. The only warning anyone needs is the reminder that there's no wi-fi here.
