A street with white buildings, a car dealership, and a market.
A river with dense forest on one side and a hill in the background.
A white house with a steeply pitched roof covered in ivy, a satellite dish, and a garage with a car parked inside.
A cemetery with numerous headstones, some adorned with American flags and flowers.

Spot wildlife as you hike through miles of untamed woods and set out on a whitewater rafting adventure from this small Maine town.

Discover the wild and scenic terrain surrounding Bingham, a town whose welcome sign proudly proclaims its location at the halfway point between the equator and the North Pole. Outdoor enthusiasts flock here in all seasons to hunt, fish and hike.

Find the bulk of Bingham’s in-town attractions on Main Street. Look for the quaint Bingham Union Library, a blue wooden structure that resembles a cosy house from the outside. Outside the library, look for the Veteran's Memorial, which pays homage to locals who served in various conflicts, including World War II and the Vietnam War.

Learn about the history of the Upper Kennebec Valley at the Old Canada Road Historical Society. Browse through cemetery records, old newspaper clippings and more. Society members may be able to tell you more about the construction of the mighty Wyman Dam, which was built in nearby Moscow between 1928 and 1931.

Bingham sits in the heart of the Upper Kennebec Valley, a stunning natural area in the centre of the state. Rent an ATV or snowmobile and explore the many paths snaking through the area. Go hiking along a portion of the Appalachian Trail and try mountain biking along clearly marked trails. The Kennebec River is popular for fishing excursions and whitewater rafting.

Venture just outside of town to see the Houston Brook Falls in Samoset. The 40-foot (12-metre) waterfall, which cascades dramatically into the creek below, makes for a great photo opportunity.

Note that the weather in Maine can vary hugely depending on when you visit. Sunny and mild summers give way to snowy and frigid winters, so pack accordingly depending on the season. Take advantage of winter weather at Baker Mountain Ski Area. With three beginner runs and two intermediate ones, skiers can hit the slopes regardless of their level of experience.

9.2/10 Wonderful! (611 reviews)
"It is a nice hotel and the room was great. The only problem was we were on the sixth floor and it was a tiny bit windy, but it sounded like we had a wind tunnel in our room. It kept waking us up both nights that we were there, sounded like a tornado was going through the room."
