Well maintained historic site is both relaxing and interesting on its merits. Meals allow for some extrovert time, otherwise a very private spot.There were a couple of hiccups around dining, but they were one offs.

I felt I was part of the family! Our whole stay was amazing. Greg certainly has a passion for the family property and I loved listening to him reading from the farm chronicles. Dinner was fantastic and our stay in “the bakery” was extremely comfortable.

Colonial farm stay - with 18 hole golf course
Awesome old (very old - colonial) stay. Modern and clean bathroom. Space was great. Beds are firm. Dinner was excellent, we had the place to ourselves, and we’re made to feel very welcome - dinner was a cheese platter, choice of main meal with home cooked potato bake, honeyed carrots and beans, followed by an individual apple crumble (which was exactly as my Nanna used to make). Great value good food. Perfect place to host a wedding or other special occasion. We explored Bothwell, Oatlands & Kempton within 30-40 minutes of the area, a couple of worthwhile distilleries and antique shops in these towns. We didn’t get to the golf course, but plan to next time. A great experience.

Interesting place. A lot of history. Enjoyed the mixed dining setting and getting to know some of the other guests. The owner manager is a bit of a strange one. He offered us 2 glasses of port when we were sitting around the fire after the other dinner guests left and then billed us for them upon leaving. I was dumbstruck.

My family loved the fact that it was a working farm and had Australia’s first ever golf course. Our daughter fed the highland cattle and loved the baby chickens. The home cooked dinner was amazing.

The historic buildings were beautifully restored and extremely comfortable. The historic golf course was beautiful and really quirky and fun to play! The hosts and all the meals were awesome !

The property was so peaceful and listening to the running water of the creek while we sat in the sun in the afternoon after travelling all day was delightful. The staff were more than helpful and friendly. Will definately come back if visiting tasmania again.

The location and history were very interesting. Our room had a beautiful peaceful view. It could however do with a table or desk to put computer on. We had our dinner there also which was nice but could have been brought up a level by offering coffee or tea and perhaps chocolates to finish with. Minor things that would have improved the experience.

The accommodation was great but the couple housing the stay for these days was very average. We decided on the homestead dinner and it was very average. Would have been better value meal at the pub. The only saving Grace was a group of people on a company trip. Delightful company Breakfast was very average for $25.00

We had an absolutely incredible night at Ratho farm- The team made our comfort and enjoyment their priority! In all honesty, we had booked Ratho on our honeymoon, as a stopping point between Strahan and Hobart... we were expecting a comfy bed for the night. What we got instead was incredible luxurious comfort, a Wednesday night “farm family” style home cooked, 3-course dinner we opted in to, an up-close experience with Highland Cattle, sheep and a gorgeous calf, and absolutely beautiful facilities in our room- fitted with deep-soaking bath, rustic appeal and a unique approach to accommodation. The room we stayed in used to be a stable, and it was complete with rafters. We wish we had stayed an extra night. The team were delightful. If you can go on a Wednesday night, Maddie’s home cooking is Devine. Make sure you go say hello to the cows and enjoy the ambiance of the farm. It has so much character, so much calmness and is absolutely not to be missed!

Quirky rustic farm stay.
Ratho Farm is a delightful, quirky setting in a refurbished farm house and cottages annexed to the oldest golf course in Australia. Our host prepared dinner for all the guests staying at the farm and regaled us with stories of the history and previous tenants on the farm. We enjoyed a game of golf on the course much the same as it was when it opened in 1822! A very enjoyable stay!

Bothwell is well situated for visits to other centres in the Tasmanian Midlands, such as Ross or Oatlands, and about one hour from Hobart. Ratho Farm offers the oldest golf course in the Southern Hemisphere and an attractive dining room in which to enjoy breakfast as well as a spacious conservatory in which to enjoy dinner with friends or fellow guests. Each of the meals is of a high quality. Alternatively, guests may choose to have a "pub meal" at the Bothwell hotel where some wine is available at bottle shop prices. The accommodation, often in heritage buildings, includes a spacious bedroom and large bathroom which includes underfloor heating - blissful on a cooler morning. Bothwell is a short walk away and includes many interesting sandstone buildings whilst the hotel was originally constructed in 1829. That is, Ratho Farm is located in uninteresting environment and provides promise of a relaxing sleep in a quiet picturesque environment whilst lying on a very good quality bed. Often acting as mein host is Mike a young, engaging and very helpful individual.

What a wonderful experience. The room was spacious and clean, and it was such fun to experience the locale. Our hosts were friendly, the golf course was quirky and entertaining. Had dinner at the local pub with the rest of the guests of the farm, then drinks in the homestead by the fire. Fine Tassie hospitality, would return in a heartbeat.
