This is something a little different from your bog standard hotel. If you want something more original and a change from the fitted carpets and fixtures and fittings that could be anywhere in the world this funky converted barge, could be for you.
The boat is moored adjacent to a coach parking area, but if you have a canalside cabin, you soon forget this once on board. The reception is welcoming and staff are pleasant. The cabins are on the small side, this is to be expected; it’s a boat. Canal-side rooms give that certain “offshore feeling”, you can feed the ducks from your window. Unfortunately the space in the small rooms is not maximised because the armchairs and desk chair are on the large side. Smaller furniture would help provide more space; and helped prevent a stubbed toe. The showers work well and the bathrooms, although clean, are just adequate and could do with some modernisation and a little TLC.
Breakfast is served in the pleasant restaurant area with canal views. The hot and cold selection is good and in addition to the standard coffee machine, 2 Nespresso machines are available.
The centre of town is around 15 minutes’ walk away, a pleasant lakeside walk through the Miniwater park, although some restaurants and shops are nearer.
Our room was detailed as having a coffee/tea maker amongst the facilities. In reality a coffee maker is not provided and a kettle is charged at €3 per day; petty!
