Take a boat along the Ria Formosa, a huge nature reserve stretching into Spain, or simply hang out on the long Praia de Faro.

If you’re in a macabre mood, the eerie Capela dos Ossos in the Carmo Church is decorated with the remains of more than a thousand former monks.
