Cologne short break
Hotel very comfortable and renovations ongoing during stay.
Bathroom door was disintegrating with the damp and wouldn’t shut properly.
Some noise from the local bars - we were on the sixth floor and it didn’t bother us but would be different with small children.
Great location with a private car park and walking distance from the city centre.
The location is good (near metro and Gloria) but there’s an awful smell in reception (toilets, maybe). This was really annoying for me as check-in took ages - 2 guys behind the desk taking ages to check-in the party ahead of me. Shower was a bit mad and no deadlock on the door, so not sure I’d go back.

Mediocre and too hot
Location of the hotel is good, close to a lot of good bars (I definitely recommend 'Woods' across the street for some unique cocktails) and restaurants. About ten minutes walk to the train station. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was okay - great bacon though. The shampoo and soap had excellent scent.
Unfortunately, the hotel looks old and tired. There is a strange smell in the lobby and the corridors. Our room looked very old and the pillows were way too soft, so we had to use two. Cologne was quite hot during our stay but there was no AC and they didn't even have any fans to offer. Some black mold in the bathroom and you could loudly hear others flushing and using their bathroom faucet - like seriously it could go on forever non-stop, very annoying. Also carpets all over the corridors and room.
Overall I'm questioning the 4 star rating because it all felt very basic, even below standard.
The hotel is in an excellent position to get to the Cathedral and the markets. It’s situated on a very busy road full of pubs and clubs so if you land up with a room at the front, you will have to put up with a lot of noise until 4.00am or so.
The rooms are quite dated with poor lighting and no tea/coffee making facilities.
The bathrooms are small but well lit and recently updated.
The hotel was absolutely fine for our needs but just be aware that it is on a very busy street for bars so depending on which side you stay it can be noisier. We found the pillows to be very flat - one of us slept with 3 and the other used the spare duvet plus 1! We also had to keep the window open the whole time despite it being December because of how hot the room was and there was no aircon, so I would struggle to stay here at any other time of the year.
We liked the overall impression of room 219 as well as being a bit at the back of the building and the view of the yoga building... however there were smokers downstairs outside so smoke got in even with the windows closed.
