The white-washed colonial church anchors this authentic district where cobblestone streets lead past artisan workshops and the Museum of Modern Art. Traditional Cuencan life thrives among historic architecture and red-tiled roofs. The area centers around its peaceful plaza where locals gather throughout the day. Mountain views frame this residential haven while nearby Tomebamba River offers scenic walking paths. Most historic Cuenca attractions remain within a 15-minute walk despite the challenging terrain.

Explore on foot to find hidden courtyards, wrought-iron balconies, and local bakeries with tempting aromas. Mountain air keeps this cultural gem refreshingly cool at 8,500 feet elevation.

Cuenca Historic Center
