"Basic safari hotel. Institutional catering. Unfortunately, the Safari vehicles were worn out and very uncomfortable. They had not replaced the shock absorber which made the drive very uncomfortable. Convenient to Cape Town, but clearly not the right bush for giraffes which had their heads permanently bowed due to lack of any trees."

The gardens and farm are not a performance - at over 2000 acres and something like 700 staff they somehow manage to seamlessly blend luxury with genuine production, and the variety is extraordinary. "Wow this place is just amazing the only downside we only had one night we did look to extending while there. We had a three bedroom villa it was huge and our own pool which was a bit cold. The food was amazing it has two restaurants one of which caters for children and will cook what you want, We loved the fact you could go for lunch and the chef comes out and cooks what you want that’s what you call service. "It was raining cats and dogs and walking into reception with the fire burning was quite enjoyable. Reception was a pleasure and seemless. Rooms clean and well appointed. Even with load-shedding the essentials were working and the Grill Room gave excellent meals including breakfast. The only "question" I have is why breakfast only starts at 8. Does result in coming late at the office. "

"Our stay was under unusual conditions. There had been a major rain storm in the past few days with some severe flooding. Despite this our stay was excellent. We spent a fair amount of time at the bar and the food and the service was exceptional. Loved the room as well."

"Very beautiful place with very welcoming owners. This break at the end of the working day was very relaxing. For Europeans not used to loadshedding, bring mosquito repellent to protect yourself from their arrival when the fan stops! This will not stop me from coming back each time I will visit Paarl. "Beware - The lodge is not serving its inclusive breakfast and doesn't compensate for its absence. The housekeeper was charming and efficient but the manager was elusive and hasn't responded to communications. We had just stayed at a guest house a few km to the north where we had a lovely daily breakfasts so unclear why DWWL couldn't provide what we had paid for. A voucher, or some Rand, to use at a local cafe would have been sufficient. "
