It is a popular sidetrip from Bali. These are the 2 quieter islands. Gili Trawangan is the most popular of the 3 GIlis by far. It is also the busiest. Gili T is famous for its late night parties, party boats and has a backpacker feel. Scuba diving and snorkelling are the most popular activities on the islands, with Gili Trawangan having the largest offering of PADI courses. Recently free-diving has become more popular than the traditional version and is offered widely on the islands.

There are plenty of places to eat and drink on the islands. Gili Air and Gili Trawangan both offer a wide variety of Western and local restaurants and bars. The average price of food in Gili Islands is a little expensive for an Asian beach destination, but still affordable. Nothing to stop you from having a fruit shake every day by the beach, or a bottle of Bintang, the popular Indonesian beer.

Gili Meno is more remote and popular with honeymooners and couples seeking an idyllic beach retreat. It has become famous for its barbecued seafood and other local specialties.

What to Buy in Gili Islands

Shopping on the Gilis is pretty limited. There are lots of convenience stores for all your travel essentials, but not too much in the way of shopping. However, with the steady stream of tourists in Gili Trawangan, you can now find some stylish boutiques, art galleries, hand-made goods, and a good array of bikinis and swimwear.

Vintage fashion lovers should visit Casa Vintage on Gili Trawagan, where lots of internationally sourced items can be found. Beautiful coconut shell accessories, cups and bowls are best purchased from Coconut Handicraft on Gili Air.
