"We had an amazing time staying at Il Mare Surfhotel Wacasa. We were greeted by the owner who immediately sat us down on the patio overlooking the water and brought us peach sodas and our choice of popsicles! "This hotel is located in a side street with shops and "downtown" nearby. The downside is that it could be a bit far to carry your luggage to/from the closest bus and taxi drop off/pickup point. While they do help in sending your luggage forward (e.g. Yamato), there are free luggage storage lockers available for guests."

"Our room was spacious and very clean. The private onsen was large and very comfortable, looking out over the river but completely private. We had the kaiseki dinner each night which was elaborate and delicious. The town of Yamanaka is very pretty with fun row of shops specialising in lacquer wear and pottery, some cafes, the usual restaurants and a big public men's and women's bath, along with a beautiful walk in the gorge along the river. All of this is within 5-15 minutes walk of the hotel....
