"We had a wonderful stay at The Retreat. The room was spacious and comfortable and we appreciated the pantries with complementary drinks and snacks. The facilities are high quality, with an elegant feel without being dated. Food was good in both restaurants, as was breakfast. The spa was very relaxing. Staff were friendly and helpful. "

"The entrance and reception area were quite good, it felt as though you had arrived at a nice modern hotel. The receptionist was friendly and check in was speedy. Our room was on the first floor and first impressions of our room were good, spacious, plenty of storage, bathroom ok, tea/coffee and a large tv. However, on closer inspection there were some cleaning issues. The vent on the electric heater didn’t look as though it had been cleaned for ages- discoloured and dusty. The overall appearance of the room was a bit tired, only one bin, in the bathroom, the foot pedal to open it wouldn’t work so I had to open it by hand and it was small and fiddly. The bed was comfortable with good quality bed linen and pillows so we slept ok. Breakfast was quite good although we were kept waiting for the cooked eggs, I think the cook had forgotten to cook them! The bacon was tasty and my husband said the sausage and hash browns were good. As well as having to ask for the eggs, we also had to ask for butter, salt and pepper. The coffee wasn’t that great even though it came from a Lavasso machine and there weren’t enough sugar sachets in a little basket, I took the last 4 the rest were sweepers. The only member of staff on duty in the restaurant, was polite and friendly, he did act quickly when we requested things. We only stayed one night, so my review can only be based on that overnight stay. Our overall feeling about our stay was that it was okay but could have been so much better."

"We've stayed in various hotels over the past several years - this is is certainly one of the best. All the people that work there are lovely, the room was excellent, and the good reasonably priced and very nice. Salisbury isn't too far from us, and since we enjoy the antique shops, I can see us staying here again."
