Le Val Thorens definitely packs some great perks: a swimming pool, a spa, ski lockers, a great location, ski-in / ski-out. And you could easily be fooled by the hotel's good looks, from the terrace to the rustic rooms. Praise, however, stops here. The list of issues that aren't worthy of a 4-star hotel goes on and on. Service is poor and clueless, and seems to be performed exclusively by interns. On the first night the internet didn't work and the staff didn't really care, on the second night the fire alarm went off twice for no reason. The room is small, the layout is terrible, and there's nowhere to put suitcases. Hang your coats on the coat hooks and you won't be able to open the door anymore. The bed is uncomfortable and the cheap synthetic pillows are horrible. The heater must date from the eighties and requires trial and error to say the least. The closet reeks of rotting melon, whose smell the staff has tried to mask with air freshener. It's impossible to run a bath without getting into the bathtub first, the shower head's pressure is miserable, the hotel only provides a big bottle of body and hair shower gel and doesn't have any hair conditioner. The included breakfast is good enough but service is again terrible -- count 20 minutes to get a knife, a napkin and a spoon, all of which could just be made available at the buffet but aren't. If this was a 2-star 100-euro hotel, this would all be fine. But it's not.
