Holiday Inn Express Madera - Yosemite Park Area by IHG
10/10 Excellent
"The room was clean and in good condition. The bed was good, not too firm, not too soft. Full breakfast is provided, and it was good. Unfortunately we had a choice of coffee, either regular coffee that was very weak, or decaf coffee that was strong but cold. It seems the staff didn’t drink coffee and so didn’t check it. When we asked, the attendant said this is what they were given. This is probably easy to fix, but the staff needed to be trained about how important coffee is to a traveler. The quality and quantity of the rest of the breakfast was great. Eggs, bacon, sausage patties and links, biscuits gravy, cereal, bagels with cream cheese. They had an instant pancake machine like I have never seen anywhere else, but the pancakes were just ok compared to the rest of the food. Ground floor room was quiet and window shade was dark so you could sleep in if you want. Room had a Kuereg machine and a couple of coffee pods so we bought some extra k-cups and made real coffee to take to breakfast. Coffee problem solved."
"Place was very clean. I only stayed 1 night but the room was way better then expected and the property inside was nicely kept. The pool looked great didnt get a chance to get in. Its pet friendly. Left a lot of luggage in cars nothing got messed with. I.woukd stay here again no problem"
"I've stayed many times at this charming, revamped original Art Deco property. Staff is amazing! They always anticipate the needs of the customer and are generally pleasant. The hotel is super clean. Also, you cannot put a price on safety, and this establishment does not skimp on safety. Valet is such a convent way to park. El Capitan offers fine dining AND a bar located inside. When locals chose to dine at the restaurant- you know the food will be good. There is so much to do within walking distance from the hotel. Pets are welcomed as well. El Capitan feels like an expensive boutique hotel with the down-to-earth customer service you would expect from the Central Valley. I highly recommend staying at El Capitan Hotel for Yosemite needs, as Merced is the "gateway to Yosemite". "
"They had panda express in and out Hawaiian bbq and Starbucks all in same shopping center. Very clean no frills property at reasonable price. Definitely would stay again "
"We had a very nice one-week stay. Very clean and mostly quiet facility, on service road near the freeway. Our accessible room was laid out so there was plenty of space to move around the bed, and lots of room in the bathroom. The A/C unit was easy to understand, effective and relatively quiet. In-room WiFi and streaming were easy to use.
The small swimming pool and Jacuzzi is tidy and easy to access, although it was a closed for maintenance 2 days of our stay. Sadly, the only water jets in the Jacuzzi that had enough force for massage were at ankle level.
This area appears to have nearly every possible fast food chain, as well as a few more interesting choices. For finer, more nutritious food you need to go to surrounding towns like Turlock or Modesto.
A couple of concerns for the bathroom: a shelf placed next to sink was not firmly rooted in the wall, so its slant made it likely that items would fall off, not much could go on it, and placement of a tissue dispenser right above it made it also likely that items would be knocked over or off the shelf. Second, there was no non-slippery coating or friction strips in the tub to prevent slipping, especially with soapy water or conditioner. "
