Decent, budget hotel in a good location, minutes walk from Union Square and about 15 minutes walk from Chinatown. Plenty of shops, bars and dining options close by. This review might have been stronger but for the condition of the property in the online photos compared to reality.

The renovations (since it was known as the Sir Francis Drake) created a very nice and pleasant atmosphere. Noise level on the Powell Street-side was relatively high due to a combination of the trollies and late-night conversations/shouting in the street. Otherwise, the stay was fantastic. Note: I unexpectedly ended up extending my stay and was moved to another room. The noise was not an issue at all on the Union Square facing side of the hotel.
