3 out of 5 Stars – Beautiful Property, But Too Many Hidden Costs The resort itself is beautiful. The views are stunning, the chapel on the hill is absolutely gorgeous, and the grounds are well maintained. Those were definitely the highlights of our stay. Unfortunately, there were several disappointments that made this an average experience overall. The restaurants were clearly extremely short staffed. The waitresses and waiters were incredibly kind, hardworking, and did the best they could, but it was obvious they were overburdened and in need of more support. Shame on the property for not staffing the restaurants appropriately. If you weren’t eating at the buffet, expect very long waits for both service and your food. The resort also has quite a few unexpected charges. If you want to take food to your room, there’s an additional fee. We were also surprised by taxes added at checkout that weren’t clearly anticipated. Transportation is another issue. Uber is not allowed on the property, which essentially forces guests to use the resort taxis that are significantly more expensive. In addition, the hotel shuttle costs $27.00 per person, which felt like yet another hidden expense. Check-in was frustrating as well. The front desk representative initially tried to charge me because she claimed my Expedia reservation was booked for only one adult. Fortunately, I had my Expedia confirmation showing it was clearly booked for two adults, so the additional charge was removed.

Clean room, friendly staff, very clean resort

We stayed at Pueblo Bonito for 5 nights in the Executive Suite with a jacuzzi. The resort is beautiful and the views are amazing. That’s honestly what made our stay. That said, we were a little disappointed with our room. It looked a bit dated and had a weird smell. I didn’t complain because the view was so nice, but we did have a few issues. Our jacuzzi wasn’t working right, so we asked someone to look at it. They came but didn’t fix it, so we called again and were told a technician would come. The technician didn’t show up until Thursday around noon, and we were checking out the next day, which was frustrating. That same day, I also noticed water leaking into our bathroom from the room above. I let the front desk know, but since we were leaving the next day, I didn’t want to deal with changing rooms. At checkout, I asked if there was any compensation for all the issues. They waived the $30 balance we had and said they’d email me a complimentary room upgrade for a future stay. I still haven’t received that email. Overall, other than the room issues, we really enjoyed the resort. It’s quiet, relaxing, and the food was really good—especially at Bistro and Tazuna. One thing to be aware of at the main pool bar, the bartenders asked for a tip before handing us a beer, even when ordering a Modelo. It just felt a little awkward. Would I stay here again? Yes, because the resort itself is beautiful. I just hope the room maintenance and follow-up customer service improve.
