The property was tired looking and needs some update. We had dinner and breakfast there and the food was very good. Staff were all helpful and welcoming.
I had such an amazing time here! One of my favorite parts about my trip to Japan. The staff was so kind & the in-room dinners were just amazing. I hope I can come back again!
A wonderful ryokan stay with exceptional Kaiseki dinner, with dinner served in our room. Kaiseki was mostly made with produce well known in the prefecture, made with a lot of care and was so delicious. Breakfast was buffet style, which was a mix of Japanese and continental - nothing exceptional, but still decent!
Especially important to be able to converse in some basic Japanese here, however they do have a few talented young staff (ours was Inoue-san) who are able to converse in decent English during dinner and made our stay especially memorable. My partner is not Japanese speaking, and she insisted she would try her best to speak in English so I wouldn’t need to always translate. The staff were also kind and helpful in general.
The onsen in the room was lovely and private enough the despite the ryokan not being far from a road. The massage chair was an added bonus for cold and stiff muscles. Room was clean, spacious and very quaint - will certainly come back!

Bad reception!
First, all ryokan I stayed had a better service especially the “welcome” to the guest e.g. greeting, help carry the bags, etc.
This ryokan…price is high but service were very poor.
• Many staffs but no one help carrying a bags from the car parked in front of the hotel unlike other high price ryokans.
• We booked three difference type of room under each guest name and what we UPSET was the staff just left the key and let us blank and guess who will stay in each type of room we booked!
• No ryokan information…gave us a key…guess the room…blank direction of how to go to the room…
……
Room is o.k./ food good/ food staff good…only the reception staffs ruined the mood of stay.
One time here is enough!
Quiet, secluded, old fashioned yet charming hotel in a small town. Very nice and very nice people. The initial welcome was lacking. I was left outside in the cold with my baggage after being greeted by a staff member. I waited for my partner to park the car before we could make it in. I thought the worker was going to get a cart. My partner thought the same and she was disappointed because she spoke to him in Japanese. The English was very limited possibly due to the rural location in the mountains. It was a good time in November with the changing leaves. We had a nice wood themed room with a tatami area and kotatsu. The private onsen was a circular tub enough to fit 2 medium (5-7 160lbs 5-3 120 lbs) sized people comfortably. The food was very good with a lot of local ingredients. Good for family or couples. Has a ping pong room and golf simulator as well as karaoke. Breakfast is buffet style, western and Japanese. Board games such as jenga, uno and chess available. Not good if relying on public transport so you need a car. Ginza onsen about 50 min away by car. If driving look for an Ayu stand along the 47 between April and end of November. It was a good experience to try.
This ryokan was exceptional in terms of service and cleaniness. The dinners served in the room were SO GOOD! I stayed 3 nights and each night was an entirely new spread of delicious samplings of the best of Yamagata's food: tender morsels of Yamagata beef, fresh sashimi, pearly shiney Yamagata rice etc., kept being served and there wasnt a night I felt hungry in the middle of the night. The room was elegantly furnished. The massage chair was a definite plus! In-room onsen was terrific. I do not think the public onsen outside of the hotel were great. It was small, way too hot and very crowded, and you'll have to pay onsen tax to use it. Stick to the hotel onsen in their basement which is way bigger and will not boil your skin off. They rotate the timings for use of the onsen for men n women, so do take note of that. Breakfast buffet options were pretty basic, so i did not quite enjoy the food. Bedding: futons were somewhat old and very thin, and even stained (blood?) I had to stack 2 futons for extra comfort.
All the minus points aside, this hotel has the best staff. In particular, employee Rina was a real darling! She went above and beyond the call of duty when she served me my dinners, making every effort to recommend foods or sights around Yamagata. Upon checkout, the concierge even handed me a handwritten note from her. That totally warmed my heart! I highly recommend this ryokan to all who visit Mogami. Thank u for being one of the best hotels I'd ever stayed in.!

Very nice hotel with excellent dinner and breakfast..we were served by a staff name RINA…she is extremely polite, cheerful and very friendly…she even personally wrote a goodbye card to me… that’s was very thoughtful and really appreciate her service.
Will definitely stay again if I am going to be in Yamagata…it’s like coming home….thank you once again
All staff were friendly and caring. Waitress Sato was in particular impressive and spoke good English which in fact was not too common for onsen hotels.
Absolutely over the top 3 day stay at this ryokan. We opted for meals inclusive and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food.
The staff was amazingly attentive!
Please consider a pickup at Shinjo station, we took a cab, there is a public bus but it was a two hour wait and we had luggage. Can arrange for luggage storage at Shinjo station? When train service is restored from Shinjo to semi onsen station perhaps that will be a viable option. Yumeminoyado will pick up at Semi onsen station with prior notice. Email communications with the hotel was responsive also, appreciated that! Overall a fantastic stay, highly recommend!
