The two ladies at the reception were very nice and helpful. As it was raining hard, we could not go to the park, so they helped us to move into our room quickly. The hotel has two restaurants, both have more than two hours wait list. Both have set menus and fixed, high price. No a la carte. There is no room service available. So hotel guests are forced into captives of the restaurants.

Amazing location
Location was spectacular! Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so we went for a hike. The room was pretty standard and the bathroom a little dated but the view made you forgot about all that. Not sure you would get a view like that anywhere in the world!

We had a bad impression from the moment we met with reception. We checked in, greeted by a blunt staff member. As we entered the lobby where our room was located, it became immediately apparent the decor is dated, and in need of repair. The carpet was heavily stained, and it felt like a dirty, dark and dingy motor in, not a $500 per night hotel. The room we had had a nice view. It too was heavily dated. Rusty fittings on the toilet, a broken window in the hallway, and to top off our first impression a pamphlet on the bed welcoming our feedback was bent and tossed carelessly on the bed. A clear indication that management doesn't motivate their staff to take pride in the presentation of rooms. Come 430 pm we felt like having a wine and watching the sunset over the mountains on the balcony (best seat in the house) - however this is accessibile via the cafe that closes at 4pm... The bar area was nice for a wine in front of the window with the mountain view, though located on the ground floor. Come dinner, there is only 1 option. The buffet - $65pp. There were some elements of the buffet that were okay, however there were some concerning, unsafe food practices that was off putting. The beef sitting in a bay-maree that was cold, bbq pork ribs coming out "fresh" however being cold and chewy - these too in the bay-maree which should be keeping them at a safe temperature. A glass of wine costing minimum $15-$16 (the same whole bottles available from a supermarket for that price).

We have just finished an extensive renovation of 60 of our rooms and the wing you stayed in will follow suit next year. The Hermitage staff were excellent & location stunning. Unfortunately however while the rooms were clean & tidy, the soundproofing of the rooms was exceptionally poor. We endured broken sleeps every night due to noise levels so would only stay again if we could specify to be on the top floor. Would also be lovely if all three advertised eating facilities had been open for variety and choice.

Disappointing tiny room & bathroom. Stunning Views
Was disappointed in this hotel. We booked here because we were scheduled to do the stargazing there. We booked 6 months out and 1 week before our trip, we were notified that they were cancelling the stargazing for our night due to "Operational Issues". The night of our stay, nothing was running so there was really little to do. Our room was the absolute tiniest room I have ever stayed - barely even enough room for us to walk around the bed. No room for luggage. The bathroom was almost absurdly tiny. The sink was the size of a tiny RV sink. Couldn't even fill a cup up with water it was so small. They put us at the very very end of the building and the WiFi did not reach. So, if I needed internet, I had to take my computer to the lobby. Also, the only dinner option AT ALL was a full buffett for an absurd amount of money. We just wanted a small, light dinner, but that wasn't an option. The only plus was the views of Mount Cook - Stunning... That is the ONLY thing that keeps this place in business. The shop had absolutely NOTHING you would want to buy. Overall a big disappointment - except for the beautiful view....

Great property overlooking Aoracki/Mt. Cook. Fabulous visitor’s center next door with hiking trails nearby. Food at their restaurant was OK. Not as good as price that was charged suggested. Room was comfortable.

Lovely stay, parking was a problem, due to inconsiderate parking from other guests, dining options were good, we looked at the buffet menu and what was on offer, which looked really nice, but we decided it was too expensive for the amount we would eat, so opted for the cafe instead, where we were able to share a pizza and fries. The location was great for the area we wanted to explore, the rooms were comfortable, and our room had a lovely view from the balcony

The location of this hotel is outstanding because of the amazing vistas, and there is a lot of hiking available nearby. However, we discovered upon arrival that there is only one option for dinner and that is the buffet that costs $65 NZ per person. All other former restaurants at Mt. Cook are closed except for the cafe that is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Therefore, we ended up creating our own appetizer supper with snack food we had brought with us, and we ate it out on the deck of our room as the rain fell beyond the overhang. The room was nicely appointed, but no face cloths or hand towels were provided; just bath towels.

Food was excellent in the main restaurant. Cafe selections were poor and overpriced. Room in need of repairs. Deadbolt lock pried out with wood exposed. Tile around shower in need of repair. Carpet very dirty both in room and hallway. Service good overall but check in was terrible. Waited 45 minutes for a room at 5:30. Way overpriced. Would not re ommend

Everything was done well at the hotel. The only minor complaint is that we could not find an AC control panel anywhere in our room. As a result, the room was a bit stuffy and warm at night.

Location is gorgeous. But our reservation was entered incorrectly into their system (despite the confirmation email being correct). At dinner, no waitstaff ever came to our table, although tables nearby were waited upon.

Amazing views from our room…and almost every other area of the hotel. Check-in and out were easy and staff were helpful and friendly. Everything you need for a stay in the area is provided here, museums and space experiences to those who love hiking and adventure through the glaciers and mountains. All activities can be booked via the hotel. The bar and dinner buffet were excellent. No complaints. Would highly recommended and would love to stay again.

We had a very enjoyable experience but were let down by our room not being serviced on one day of our visit, otherwise would have rated 5 stars. Night duty manager was missing in action one night with only one staff at front desk. The breakfast and dinner buffets were reasonably priced, and we enjoyed our experiences there.

You,re paying for the view.
Was disappointed with the hotel, you are paying for the view. Bathroom looked like a hospital bathroom with the tiniest basin. Bedroom was tiny also and was grubby. The towels smelled of food. Breakfast and dinner options are ok but nothing special. Please sort out the beans, tomatoes and scrambled eggs as these looked horrible.

The room and dining room views are incredible! Though the room was outdated and the tub would not drain well. You were required to make a reservation for dinner the day before. This would have been nice to know in advance. The star gazing on the deck was also required to be pre booked and we were unable to get in. Although the views from the rooms are quite spectacular! Our expectations were high but unfortunately unfulfilled.

The room we were given was very dirty, noisy and in need of renovation. Walls were paper thin and noise from floor above was unacceptable. It was not at all clear from our booking we were getting such a poor room. It was clear on arrival that there are a range of premium rooms. We have never had this degree of trouble when booking with Wotif. The advertising for this property was misleading. To add to room issues, payment had not been processed by Wotif in spite of the platform saying the payment had been received and there was zero balance owing. It’s a marvellous location. Avoid Wotif and make sure you are getting a reasonable room at the Hermitage. There appears to be numerous accomodate 'wings'.

“Premium Double/Twin Room, Mountain View” did not disappoint with clear views of Mt Cook/Aoraki (provided there was no cloud/mist). Room 520 was quiet, beds and pillows were soft and comfy. The Snowline Bar is a cool place to hang out and enjoy the views with a drink or snack. Staying there for 7 nights, we were initially disappointed the restaurant offered buffet service and not a la carte, but we quickly ended up looking forward to dinner and dessert.

Overall had a great visit, great scenery and location. Meals were great and staff very good even though they were still getting up to speed after Covid. Disappointed with room. After booking three months ahead, we got to out room to find it was adjacent to lifts/stairwell, the bathroom was set up for a person with disabilities and the view (which we anticip[ated as being 180 degrees and or of Mount Cook at least) was blocked as the room was flush against the main building. Has a nice view of the range opposite Mt Cook and the roof of the main building and the aircon. Only view of Mt Cook (the reason we came) was from the carpark and or by walking out the front. I am not sure of the hotel was full ?? but would have thought for the price paid a better view would have been available. Disappointed.
