"The hotel is a lovely architectural reminder of classic Hollywood, The proximity to Hollywood Blvd. is terrific for ease in navigating the surrounding tourist spots. I traveled with my dog and had a great welcoming experience. The Tropicana pool bar offers tremendous food. Try the gf egg white frittata. The servers are knowledgeable regarding food allergy needs. There is a significant issue with what felt like a bait and switch regarding the room I booked. I booked a garden cabana but when I arrived, I was told the room class was not actually available. I was taken to see two rooms, one cabana without a balcony or outside access and one with a balcony. I was told the room I could get was the one without a balcony or outside access, that the booking was a first come first served basis and I was out of luck. I chose the one with the balcony but was told it would be an additional $30.00, with a wave of some paperwork asking me to sign for the room, I was ushered off only to feel taken by the switch. Please be advised the garden cabana room you see on the site might not be available when you arrive. I contacted Expedia and they called the hotel directly. I was told I could not get my $30.00 back because I signed paperwork accepting the new room. The Expedia care professional worked with me and the hotel and got them to rescind the charges. Something felt terribly off about the way the booking was handled on-site at the hotel. Please be advised!"

"The majority of the staff were very helpful (especially valet). Checking in was something else. Our room wasn’t ready but they said it would be in an hour to hour and 15 minutes and they would text me when it was ready. Two hours go by and no text. I approached the desk and explained what was told to me. Evidently the room had been ready for quite some time. I really wasn’t happy"

"Location: downtown LA is interesting Plaza next to hotel will be great when they finish. Breakfast: restaurant in the hotel is lovely, expensive and slow. Options outside the hotel are great on weekdays, quite limited on weekends."

"Property is nice in general. Paying $50/night is insane, but give how sketchy the area is around the hotel, I would NOT have been comfortable leaving our car parked on the street overnight. So I was more paying for peace of mind. The room was clean but the AC did NOT work. It was as low as it could go, 65, but just blew out room temp air. It was really hot during our visit so our room was super hot at night. The bathroom is tiny with very little counter space. There are ice machines on each floor, but no dedicated water fill stations. Rooms had a little fridge and microwave and they both worked. There is NO complimentary coffee, which was kinda frustrating. Only option was to hit the Bistro down in the basement and pay $4.40 for a 12oz drip coffee. The Bistro isn’t open in the afternoon or evening so if you want a beer or glass of wine you are out of luck. There are several elevators, but they are really slow, so we took the stairs a lot. Keep in mind you need your key card to go anywhere. Elevator and stairs both require key cards to get anywhere. Property itself is cool. This could be a really rad place. They need to bump up the amenities a bit, at least have a small area in the lobby that offers free coffee and that you can buy a beer in the evenings."
