"Generally our stay at the hotel was good. The location is good, the room was clean and functional and the breakfast was excellent with great service. The let down for us was that when we returned to the hotel, cold and wet (due to the storm) on the Friday evening we first went to the bar to warm up. I ordered 2 coffees for for my wife and I, but was told the coffee machine had been cleaned and no hot drinks were available, this was at 10.15pm. A supposed 5 star hotel could not supply a coffee? I then asked for a port for us both but was told we don't have any ?? We went straight back to our room. The good points of the hotel were negated by the attitude of the bar staff who couldn't be bothered to help. Will try another hotel next time we need to stay in Chester."

"Second visit so we obviously like the hotel, great location for the town centre (5mins walk), pool and gym are great ( if your female take a £1 coin for locker, if male you get a cricket ball sized keyring and no where to keep it). Breakfast is good value and quality."

"Historic hotel, well located in centre of town. Parking available. Decor definitely dated but had the essentials. No elevator, but a rarity in British hotels."

"There was an issue at check in regarding our family room whereby the expedia booking info hadn't pulled through correctly to the hotel. I would recommend emailing the hotel after booking to reconfirm everything. The family room was a decent size, although towels were stained and the free mini's were half used. The pool facilities were lovely. The pool was a little chilly, but jacuzzi very nice and warm."

"Cosy old place with a nice pub downstairs. Only haf breakfast which was nice. Room for family of 4 was big and charming. Would go here again"

"Check in was easy and a luvly lady at reception made it go smoothly, room was comfy and clean,great shower, I booked 6 rooms for my family for my 60th and all rooms were fine,enjoyable stay but breakfast was very confusing we were told we all had complimentary continental bit at breakfast were we had to pay? After checking with reception he said we were right then there was no orange juice unless we paid and if you wanted toast and croissants with our continental it was again extra money which I found annoying because without those it was just cereal and fruit? Needs to be looked at,also I told the hotel it was my 60th and I had a card in my room saying Happy 10th Anniversary???"
