Plum Island Lighthouse protects the delta of the Merrimack River, and was commissioned for the first time in 1788 with a lantern that burned whale oil. Its current form dates from the year 1898. In 1927 it began to work with electricity and was automated in 1952. As you can see the light it emits is green. The lighthouse's surroundings are always accessible and the structure itself is open some days a year. We loved our stay. The room was clean and well appointed, if you were staying a few days with kitchen. Other than the location on the beach, the best part about the Inn was service. The woman working at the front desk was very friendly and professional.
