"We spent one night here, in one of the motel-style units which had a useful kitchenette and was handy for taking our dog outside. It was clean enough but really the whole property needs maintenance - there were stains on walls, mould starting to grow on warped wood around the bath, big weeds growing through the astroturf outside. Hot water took forever to come through. Had a couple of drinks in the bar - it could do with some music. Took ages to get served as one staff member had to man both the reception and bar. Breakfast was pretty poor - I arrived at 9:30 and there was no milk, yoghurt, bread, eggs or sausages left on the buffet. Staff nowhere to be seen. After a long wait, a few sausages arrived, and some bread - I saw mould on at least one piece. We actually had a decent stay - comfy bed, lots of space in our room and a good location for the pier. £15 for parking and £15 pet fee is reasonable compared to many other Bournemouth properties we looked at. But the chain needs to invest in deep cleaning and maintenance, and roster on enough staff to meet customer expectations."

"The Laguna is a bit of a Marmite Hotel - some love it, others hate it. Yes, it's a bit ramshackle and not always as well maintained as you would like, parking can be difficult, and the beds are a bit hit or miss as to comfort. But the bedding is clean, the price is often quite low, it's a short walk to the town centre through the upper pleasure gardens and the pool is lovely. Yes, that's the best reason for selecting it - the pool is not huge (I estimate 12m long) but swimmable. Sometimes it gets a bit busy, but as often as not I have been there on my own. Check the pool opening hours - sometimes they extend them slightly, so last Friday it was kept open to 8pm - useful for someone like me arriving a bit later. Be prepared to have to practice your parking skills, as much of the space is often taken by their own coach fleet. And once you have a space, walk! Westbourne with its independent shops and bars is just over 10 minutes, and the town centre a little more, with the pier and beach easily reached through the gardens."
