"My experience “staying” at the Regency Inn in Richmond was so bad it bordered on disturbing. First let me say, the staff was friendly and reasonably professional. But the room was perhaps the most appalling room I’ve ever had the misfortune to step into, to say nothing of a hotel room that I had already been charged for. The first thing to hit was the sickly sweet smell of cleaner that was clearly covering up a very, very bad odor. I stopped breathing through my nose within a minute or so of being in the room. The second thing was the squish as I stepped onto the carpet. The third thing was the sagging and stained acoustic ceiling tiles. After that it was just one bad thing after another: the battered furniture, the deeply stained carpet and armchair, the lamps with non-working bulbs, the stained bathtub, the rusty fixtures. Even though I was exhausted from a long drive from Florida, there was no question of spending another minute in that room. The staff said there were no other rooms available and that that room was representative of the others. I left immediately, needing to put many miles between me and that disturbing room. Needless to say, the photos in the listing looking NOTHING like the actual room I was assigned. The photos I’m attaching don’t even fully convey what the room actually looked like. I have no idea how this establishment managed to acquire the positive reviews."

"Rooms had issues. Toilet was really loose, shower kept clogging. I’m not a complainer so I dealt with it. But not worth the price for the stay."

"Fine for a short-term stay. I was there for a week. Could only get the shower hot once. Took about 25 minutes for it to heat up. Mid-day when barely anyone in the hotel would be showering made no difference. The air freshener they have in the lobby is so strong it is disturbing while eating breakfast. They also start cleaning up about 10 minutes before breakfast is supposed to be closed. Things that were good: clean and spacious room, nice large lobby and breakfast space. Breakfast was also good."

"Excellent room, comfortable beds, clean and comfortable bathroom. No pet fee for ESA dog. Breakfast was good overall, but no vegetables. Strong smell of marijuana everywhere, even on the 4th floor. "

"I’d like to start off with the positives, the staff was wonderful. Easy check in, helpful when needing assistance, easy check out. The room itself was pretty good condition, some minimal issues like marks on the wall and my daughter noticed a stain on the comforter cover. Housekeeping did well with our room turnover on our second day. So no complaints there. But that’s about the end of the positive notes. I am not certain how old this building is but it looks OLD, for such an up and coming surrounding area. One of two elevators was out of service, and the second almost made me second guess using it. In Fact when I tried to on our first day, it didn’t work. So I took the stairs and was HORRIFIED at the condition of the pool area, there is mold EVERYWHERE and I smelled it before I saw it. The stairway itself was filthy as well. I am truly concerned for staff and guest safety on that floor. The water pressure in the bathroom was barely existent. More like a drip than a shower. The water from the sink smelled very pungent. Two of us stayed for 3 days and were given 2 towels one hand towel and one washcloth. Very odd. The AC unit sounds like a freight train, was hard to sleep or stay asleep with the air running. Overall I was not thrilled with the stay. I’ve paid half the cost at a much better kept Hilton. The owners are fully responsible for the poor conditions here, truly concerning. "

"This place was very clean as well as our room. Our toilet tank was not flushing right and would fill up and overflow. They did come in and replaced the handle which helped but did overflow again after it was fixed during the night. We had to use every towel and they did not come in and clean the room and clean up the towels after we cleaned up the water. I thought the price for a Holiday Inn was a little pricey."
