The facility doesn't worth four stars at all but absolutely less than that. It was an apartment (civic number 5) far from the main hotel with no possibilty of parking your car. Basically there is no car park within the hotel and you have to park on the road around the area. In the apartment you easily find this: poor cleaness, no drinks in the fridge (only a bottle of water was available in there), no tv, no fan and no window in the bathroom... just for starting. And the price for two nights is too high for those (low) standard levels. In one word: disappointed! Very very disappointed. Sorry to say but never never back to Castel Gandolfo Hotel.

Our stay was great. Staff were very helpful and friendly. View of Lago Albano from our room was stunning. We’d stay there again, but would upgrade to a superior room rather than standard. Castel Gandolfo itself was the most idyllic place to visit

Overall it was good, breakfast was delicious. The only thing that I was not really happy with was the elevator only works to 1st floor and from there I had to carry my luggage down to the lobby.

It was wonderful to rent the spacious penthouse apartment with the glorious rooftop patio with view of the lake. It should be noted this apartment has several levels and lots of stairs. The staff at the hotel was a five star experience from the gals at the desk to Filippo who went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. Breakfast every morning was lovely. Can’t wait to return to this heaven on earth.

Castle Gandolfo
Castle Gandolfo is a very old town so do expect narrow streets, but wonderfully typical of Italy. Very picture perfect overlooking the lake. Lovely traditional restaurants & bars in range. Staff very helpfully to give you the best stay. Note! the train down the hill can get you to Rome in 40 minutes.

IT WAS RIGHT IN THE OLD VILLAGE. BUT FINDING IT IS SOMEWHAT HARD. THERE IS ONLY ONE ROAD THAT GOES THRU THE VILLAGE AND YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW IT UNTIL YOU COME RIGHT TO THE FRONT OF THE HOTEL. THEY DO HAVE TWO PARKING SPACES FOR UNLOADING YOUR BAGS BUT THEN YOU HAVE TO GO TO ONE OF THE PARKING AREAS TO PARK YOUR CAR. (WHICH IS NOT EXPENSIVE AT 4 EUROS FOR THE ENTIRE DAY). BUT IT IS UP AND DOWN SLOPED DRIVEWAYS TO GET TO THE PARKING AREAS.

Lovely stay!
My husband and myself had a really lovely stay at castel gandolfo. The view from our patio was priceless. Our room overlooked the beautiful lake Albano and faces the east, so you can see the sunrise from the room. Hotel Staff are friendly and speak good English. Kudos to Julio, our driver, who made us feel extremely at home. Though the rooms are slightly dated and showers are a little small but the pros outweigh all the cons!

Romantic
Surprisingly very nice small old township, with a lot of nice restaurant at very reasonable price (APRIL end), and highly recomend for romantic getaway , hotel are in very old building with new interior, is not the best modern, but price wise, this is excellent choice, with nice restaurant just under my room and lake view

We returned here because we liked it. Great view at the penthouse apartment. 38 minute train to Rome. Parking nearby is available thoya little challenging for a foreigner not used to the tight driving conditions.

The hotel location has an amazing view. All the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Filipo was very nice and made us feel very special and he drove us to pick our daughter in her school about 5 minutes away from the hotel. The hotel transportation from airport to the hotel and back were very reliable. Thank you so much for the pleasant stay.

Friendly welcome and great views
The lady at the desk gave us a very warm welcome, and check in was very professional, easy and quick. The room was as advertised and was a reasonable size and clean, but did show some signs of wear and tear (marks on the walls and the shower enclosure had makeshift repairs) but nothing that spoiled our enjoyment. . We had a balcony overlooking the lake and the views were really beautiful. There is a breakfast buffet with plenty of choice, including eggs and bacon, ham, cheese, cake, cereal, yoghurt, juices and fresh fruit. No restaurant at the hotel but plenty of lunch and dinner choices very close by. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, all the staff were friendly and helpful, but the area itself does not warrant a long stay.

Convenient apartment with grear view of the lake
Convenient accommodations for a family with two kids. The apartment has great view of the lake from the balcony. Check in in near by hotel, a few steps down the street was easy.

Amazing view and location with very helpful staff. The facilities are a little dated but it was a very pleasant stay. We would stay again. If you stay here go and eat at a nearby restaurant called Art e Vino. It was cheap and the food is phenomenal.

Failed to mention location was on top of mountain.
Called ahead and staff provided excellent directions for use of train to location. What they failed to mention, including in any of the advertisement, was the hotel is located on top of a fairly steep mountain and the directions, hard to decipher, advised climbing via the roadway. The entire climb was extremely steep and difficult with baggage and considering our advanced ages. It turns out there is an alternative route up some hand set stone trails and steps, which proved to be a challenge but easier than the road way climb. They were then happy to provide a ride to the airport for a fee but made the final leg of the trip easier to deal with. Breakfast was healthy, many options, and tasty. People and staff friendly and helpful but following the climb we had little left for sightseeing.

Nice Hotel with great views!
4 stars in Italy doesn't mean the same as elsewhere from my experience, and I would rate this more a 3 or 3.5 star hotel. Nevertheless, I rented the penthouse apartment for one night and it was amazing! The best feature was of course the big terrace overlooking the lake, which was just spectacular. The staff was friendly though I did not have much interaction with them. The breakfast was small but lovely. Overall a good experience, although the hotel looked a bit blend and tired, which is why I couldn't give more than 4 stars.

Magnificent view - superb service
Magnificent view from our room. The facility was clean and charming. The room was adequate to meet all our needs. The only complaint was that we were next to the kitchen and there was some noise late at night and early morning but we overlooked it because everyone was so nice and helpful with transfers and information about local restaurants etc.would come again!

We chose one of the apartments which is just a few doors down from the hotel. Looks like it was renovated very recently. Everything was new and it had a nice balcony and view of the lake. The only drawback is that the bedroom is right next to the road, from which there is a little noise. We are light sleepers, and it bothered us a little. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was good.

Comfortable. Spectacular views of Lake Albano.
I enjoyed my two nights in this small hotel. There were problems with Wifi in my room throughout the stay, and the lady on reception recommended that I should use wifi in the lounge / breakfast area. But I should be able to use wifi in my bedroom ! I would recommend this hotel. I would stay there again.

I feel the hotel could have sent a mail to prepare us for our arrival. We arrived by train at the Castel Gandolfo station after a morning of travelling. Google Maps indicated the hotel was 800m away from the station but it was a mean uphill to walk with luggage cases. We should have been forewarned and offered a shuttle. Staff weren't very welcoming when we arrived which was disappointing considering we had just conquered the meanest hill! Our room wasn't ready (we were about 40min early) so we walked around a bit until it was. When we entered the room I was anticipating the view but the curtains were closed. Weird. Anyway, we opened the curtains and the extra we paid for the view of the lake was definitely worth it. Spectacular. There was no notepad or pen in the room, no information on the area or suggestions of what to do or restaurants to dine at.The wi-fi signal was really really bad. The bathroom had a jet bath and looked inviting, except when we ran the water strange things came floating out of the jets.Eeeuw. For a 4 star hotel the room looked a bit tired. Our second day was much better, different staff at reception and breakfast and the rest of the stay was very pleasant. I must emphasize how stunning the lake view was and I would highly recommend paying the extra for the view if you're able to.

Hotel in a stunning location but the hotel is run like Fawlty Towers. In our room the air conditioning didn't work, balcony light didn't work, fridge didn't work, safe didn't work and they had no idea how to fix any of them. If you don't get to breakfast by 7.30am nothing is left and they don't replace it. And the rooftop bar and jacuzzi is not used so you can't get access to it anyway! Glad we weren't there for long! I had high hopes for this hotel but was very disappointed!
