India Gate is a 138-foot- (42-meter) tall archway honoring the tens of thousands of Indian soldiers who died serving in the British Army in World War I. Mounted under the arch is the Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame commemorating unknown soldiers who lost their lives in various wars.

5. Red Fort

Huge, red sandstone walls, which stand 33 metres (110 feet) high in some parts, gave Red Fort in New Delhi its name. The walls were built to keep out invaders during the reign of the Mughal Emperor of India Shah Jahan in the 17th century. Shah Jahan is also famous for founding the Taj Mahal.
