Great location, right on the ghats, with nice clean rooms, a good restaurant for guests (try the thali), an evening boat ride, and classical music in the courtyard in the evenings. The staff are friendly and helpful, including assisting with luggage and taxis (cars cannot get all the way to the hotel because of the small alleys) and with booking tours (eg to Sarnath). Excellent views of the Ganges from the terrace and the roof. Nice to stay in a historic building, right against the river.

An oasis in old town Varanasi
Varanasi is crazy, vibrant and busy. Suryauday Haveli was a wonderful place to stay. Quiet, very clean and very comfortable. Staff extremely helpful and the best thing - its right on a ghat on the Ganges and in the old town.

Best place along the Ganges, and not expensive!
What an amazing place. I’ve stayed at “fancier” places along the Ganges for a lot more money. And this place is better! Great view that the others don’t have, superior service, exceptional restaurant, great location. When I come back I’m definitely staying here

Experience on the Ganges
We were welcomed with a blessing and cup of tea. We came to experience the Ganges. The people, property and location all helped fulfill this reality. The food was delicious with a family environment. Vegetarian and no alcohol on property. This place is real and charming, not grand and luxurious. We enjoyed strolling around the Ganges and the convenience could not be beat, our morning and evening voyeur window to look down to see what was happening on the ghat. The roof top view was spectacular. We would definitely return to this property, simply for the charm of the people who work there, food and location. They helped us coordinate a trip to Sarnath, which was thoroughly enjoyable.

Superb stay in Varanasi
We have stayed in this beautiful located Haveli the first weekend of December. We were warmly welcomed by the staff. They allowed us to check-in early. Served the breakfast on the balcony and helped also with the logistics for our checkout. The rooms are spacious, great showers and good ambiance.

A great hotel
The best of the hotel , is it the people . They are very nice, welcoming, attentive and helpful, always pending on all details . The hotel is very clean and comfortable, like an oasis in the middle of the crazy Varanasi. Location is perfect , right on the ghat area. On the down side the hotel is one hour away from the airport thru a city chaotic traffic and it is situated in an area just for pedestrian so you have to walk about 10 - 15 min thru confusing narrow streets that I assure you will get lost . Very difficult if u have a lot of luggage. No sings and people give you confusing directions. We try to call the day before for the hotel pick up but we could not communicate with the hotel , nevertheless we use the cab stand at the airport, that is almost 3 time cheaper that the hotel price and and we made the walk after without majors complications . The hotel is expensive . During my stay in India , I stayed at only 5 start hotels and this one was the most expensive , and not necessary the best one , but due it is Varanasi maybe is worth it , u can decide. The restaurant on site is vegetarian. I ordered the sample platter and it was very tasty. Read some negative reviews about the price of the food but I think it was good . Unfortunately breakfast was not that great . In general , I had a great time and I would like to thank to all the hotel people that are special and made us feel like a second home . Oh and by the way Varanasi is a unique experience.

Great Location
After a hectic ride and a walk through alleys to get to the hotel we were greeted with juice, a garment, and a blessing. Being able to look out of the window to see the Ganges and to walk right out of the hotel and be at the river's edge was great. I would recommend doing both the morning and evening boat rides. Our guide, Sanjay, provided us with great information and was great to be with. The food was good and the servers treated us with great kindness and warmth making us feel at home.

Comfort with perfect location
Can't beat the location. Comfortable stay overall and some of the nicest amenities in the riverside ghat area. Only issue is the staff is relatively inexperienced, had issues with them fixing the wifi and just generally being a bit aloof. Honestly not that big of a deal and I would stay again here over anywhere else in the area hands down.

Very well located. Amazing, caring staff.
This hotel was perfectly located right on the Ganges near to everything. The staff were very attentive and responsible. You cannot take a taxi right to the door as it is located down an alley. Maybe book a car through the hotel so that there are people to help with your luggage. It costs 1600 inr for a taxi from the airport which is about 60-70 minutes away. At the moment it is about C$40. Think about arriving at your destination safely, without hassle and just pay the money. Then enjoy. The free boat ride to the evening ceremonies was amazing. The hotel even packed you a small snack and sent tea along. This was lovely and made you feel pampered. The boat drivers were very nice and informative. Buy the candle/flower float for 10 inr from the little boys who board your boat and send a wish to all your loved ones who have passed. If you are doing a budget trip through India, you are not staying at this hotel so put it all in perspective and enjoy your time. The restaurant for breakfast was lovely but you may want to try another place for dinner if you are inclined to try local eats. The hotel offered many choices for westerners but... you are in India, eat some amazing food out there. I personally found the Indian food at the restaurant bland but I guess they were catering for a western crowd. There is a lovely restaurant within a 5 minute walk. Look it up and try it out. You won't be disappointed. Anyone is welcome to contact me for more details on where to go & What to see.

Room was pretty clean. limited amount of hot water. The food was pretty terrible all around. The location, however, was spectacular. There are limited options in Varanasi, and this was definitely expensive for the quality of the food and room but the service was very good and we had a pleasant stay.

Suryauday Haveli - Varanasi
The hotel was very nice and the location along the Ganges river was fantastic. They offer morning and evening boat rides along the river and I recommend doing both. They can also arrange a guide to take you through the city. Cost is what you think the guide was worth. The location is very convenient for a walk along the ghats on your own.

A wonderful respite from the intensity of Varanasi
We were warmly welcomed after a long day of flying and driving. Neeraj the manager was able to help us with any needs we had. He went above and beyond with making us comfortable, ordering food, taxis, morning boat ride and anything else we needed. The food was delicious in the restaurant and clean. The service was was good and my friend and I really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautiful and has a lot of character. the view from the top of the hotel is beautiful and looks out to the ganges, the buffalos walking the ghats, aspirants and sadhus and washing themselves in the ganges and yet most of the time a sweet silence that is hard to find in Varanasi. If you are planning visiting Varanasi then this is the place to stay to deal with the intensity and non stop bustle of this old city. Also, the hotel will set up the early morning Ganges boat ride for a inexpensive charge, and the boat ride to see the night fire ceremony is quite spectacular as well..

This hotel is excellently well located in the heart of Varanasi. The rooms are nice and the staff friendly. Your host can take care of all of your requests for visits to local sites and boat tours (a must). I would recommend this hotel to anyone interest in being in the center of the action for Varanasi.

A real taste of India.
The position of this hotel is perfect, near enough to the centre of things to be convenient but tucked away in a quieter part of the waterfront. Staying here was one of the highlights of my month long trip and the hotel provides much more than just a place to stay. Live music in the courtyard in the evenings, it's own boat and car/taxi and excellent food. Staff were attentive and friendly. Although I had booked a normal room I was upgraded to the suit, because it was free for the length of my stay and I had excellent river views and views of Shivala Ghat. Roof top gives a fantastic panoramic view of the Ganges. If I ever return to Varanasi I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

magical !!!!!
I was met with a traditional greeting of a fine silk scarf draped around your neck and a blessing tilak to the forehead .....dinner at the in-house retaurant in the internal courtyard - open to the night sky - was delicious and even more so accompanied by live Indian classical music.....the complimentary boat ride down the Ganges to see the Shiva arati at dusk was spiritualy enlightening and so beautifull & powerfull it bought tears to my eyes; while the local boat boys driving the boat were a fountain of knowlege....the hotel staff were incredably helpfull and understanding and it was very much like staying in one of those grand old houses you catch a glimpse of while sightseeing the streets, with all the house servants in attendance.....kites flying from the roof top balcony and a private stairway to take you down to the Shiva Ghat - so easy to walk to any of the other ghats....the rooms were lovely & warm, great beds, excellant bathrooms and everything I needed.....if you ever need anything else just ask at reception!...I would always stay here again when in Varanasi....

Had "river view" room, but it was upstairs and window was pretty small. Must walk carefully through alleys to hotel to avoid stepping on cow dung, etc. Liked being on river and not in "corporate" hotel. Room was simple, but clean. However, still think it overpriced.

Great location, food and service but it costs you!
Excellent staff and service and a great location. Although I wasn't expecting a pure vegetarian restaurant the food was excellent. It's a long way off 5 star quality but with a 5 star price tag and you can get similar standard hotels in the general area for half the price but I doubt that other hotels would be able to compete with the service and the welcoming attitude of the staff. The price includes an evening boat ride, morning yoga classes, WiFi and breakfast which goes some way towards the excessive cost of the hotel. Recommend that you book the hotel organised airport transfers as the hotel can be tricky to find (the transfers will also cost about double a standard taxi).

Right on The Ganges
The location of this hotel is right on The Ganges, but beware. It is not possible to take transport right to the hotel, so travellers with reduced mobility should be aware of this. It is more than a good 5 minute walk, through very narrow, uneven paths and up steps, shared with many cows, people and dogs. Once there though, the location is great, as is the hotel. The room was very nice, clean and everything in the bathroom worked well. Don't be tempted to book a room with a balcony as they are internal balconies, not overlooking the river. I would definitely stay here again.

good but over-priced
Positive: This hotel is located right on the banks of the River Ganges and has hotel boat service for river rides. Rooms were clean and well air-conditioned, furnished simply but comfortable. Negative: I thought it was way-overpriced compared to similar places we stayed. The restaurant food was acceptable but not special and also over-priced. Also, it is not directly accessible by car. Porters must carry your luggage about 2-3 blocks through a maze of small alleys.

Location right on the Ganges River
The accomodations were as advertised, an oasis in a very chaotic city. Strongly suggest arranging a guide to deliver you ALL the way to the hotel, as it would be extremely difficult to find it yourself on foot. (Cars can't reach it.) The room and interior courtyard were great. Some dining staff members were very pushy and wouldn't let us eat in peace, others were fine. Yoga on the rooftop at dawn was a bonus!!

Very over priced
100 pounds a night in India is a lot of money and one expects a high quality hotel for this price. The complimentary breakfast was shameful. My room was supposed to have adjacent balcony with river view, not so. There was no active telephone no. working on reception. The no. given on the web site was the office. I tried for days to call the hotel for airport pickup without success. The staff were arrogant and unconcerned. While I was there many other guests were upset and complaining. It is a complete rip off. In the UK the hotel would be prossecuted for misrepresenting the facts.

LIke the other reviewers said, this place is a Oasis from the the bustle and mess that is Varanasi. The staff was lovely and the restaurant, though spartan was pleasant with good food.

Varansi adventure
The hotel was truly an oasis in an otherwise unbelievably chaotic city. Unless I missed it somewhere, what isn't disclosed is that the hotel is only reachable by foot or bicycle rickshaw. A car cannot get close. The rooms are comfortable (AC was outstanding) but not lush. The food was delicious and the service throughout the hotel terrific. It is secure and get a river view simply to take in the sights and sounds of the area even after dark. Varanasi is not for the faint of heart, but the hotel stands out in a city filled with places I would not step foot in, let alone sleep in. I may not return to Varansi, but if I did, I would definately stay here again and again.

Nice place for a vacation.
This is more of a destination hotel than a hotel to stay at if you're just looking for a place to stay at near the ghats in Varanasi while you take care of some religious ceremony. The place is very clean compared to the rest of the city. The service is nice though at some times it seemed like they were too eager to please. The food at the hotel seemed a little expensive. You should try calling the hotel before you arrive so that they can arrange a pickup as it is easy to get lost if you don't know exactly how to get there.
