Orchard Road Christmas Light Up 2018 with Disney

Christmas is only a few weeks away and Singapore‘s Orchard Road has transformed itself to a magical land of Disney moments! This is the largest Christmas street light-up by Disney in Southeast Asia, running along 1.88-kilometre Orchard Road. Disney Princesses, Mickey Mouse & Friends, Frozen and Toy Story characters decorate every nook and corner of Orchard Road this year. Every year the Orchard Road Christmas Light Up draws big crowds who are there not only to do Christmas shopping, but to enjoy the glittering lights and pose with elaborate decorations by all the malls competing for the best decor. It may get a little overwhelming out there, but fret not! All you need is some “cheat sheet” to conquer Orchard Road Christmas light-up like a pro.

Main Arch

The Orchard Road light-up starts with an elaborate main arch at the junction of Paterson Road. The icy blue main arch shows the four main characters of this Disney light-up: Cinderella, Mickey, Woody, and Elsa. It is only the beginning to more Disney light-up and decorations along the road!

Mini Arch

While you can’t take photos of yourself standing below the main arch, you can find its mini version in front of Wisma Atria. Go there early, just after the sunset, or very late at night on a weekday to avoid the crowd queuing to capture a moment with this arch.

Orchard Christmas Light Up Zone 1: Disney Princess

Walking down from Tanglin Mall to Scotts Road, you’ll be tickled pink by all the Disney Princess Christmas arches.

In front of Shaw Urban Plaza, The Little Mermaid Set Piece stands out with its colourful coral and seashell decorations. In the words of the wise Sebastien, “Such wonderful things surround you. What more is you lookin’ for?”

Seize the chance to get close to and take photos with Ariel and her glittering seashell throne. We can already hear you diehard Disney Princess fans squealing with joy!

Orchard Road Christmas Light Up Zone 2: Mickey Mouse

The Mickey Mouse zone of Orchard Road’s 2018 Christmas Light Up, stretches from Orchard MRT Station to shortly after Mandarin Gallery.

Whether you are team Mickey or Minnie, you’ll have a chance to take photos with them outside Wisma Atria and Ngee Ann City. The silver, purple and icy blue Christmas decorations on the platforms bring some winter vibe to Singapore.

Orchard Christmas Light Up Zone 3: Frozen

Do you wanna build a snowman?

Frozen blue lights decks the stretch of Orchard Road from Mandarin Gallery to Concorde Hotel. Unfortunately, there is no set piece for Frozen, but the beautiful deep blue arches have all the elements of Frozen movies: photos of the main casts (Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Kristoff) as well as snowflakes and bells. The cool blue along this stretch creates a little wintery look, with the inevitable warmth of Singapore’s temperature — probably what Olaf feels like in summer under his little cloud!

Orchard Road Christmas Light Up Zone 4: Toy Story

Another successful classic story of Disney that is close to many people’s hearts, especially the millennials who grow up watching this movie: Toy Story. The fun, bold orange colour makes a good contrast to the typical blue-purple Christmas decoration. You can see Woody, T-Rex, Buzz Lightyear, Aliens (also known as the Little Green Men), and many more!

Sundays – Thursdays: 6.30 pm – 12 midnight

Fridays – Saturdays: 6.30 pm – 2 am

Christmas Eve and NYE: 6.30 pm – 6 am

The Great Christmas Village

Besides all the colourful light-up and set pieces, don’t forget to visit The Great Christmas Village at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza for a line-up of interesting events. Feel the spirit of Christmas by hopping on the amusement rides and a duplex carousel. There are free arts and craft activities for children as well as Meet and Greet Santa Claus every Friday and Saturday, 7 pm – 9 pm.

And what’s Christmas without food? Head to Timbre x Food Village to quench your thirst and sate your hunger with popular local shops such as Two Wings and New Ubin Seafood. You can enjoy your food while watching some live performance by local talents at night.
